The stage at this year’s Kente Party of TINA (This Is New Africa) Festival collapsed whilst the event was on-going, leaving a fan in a very critical condition whilst others sustained minor injuries.
In a video captured by GhanaWeb, a fan was seen trapped and lying motionless right under the collapsed stage at Labadi Beach in Accra.
This unfortunate event happened immediately after the performance of Article Wan, and Kwesi Arthur was called to the stage to perform.
Some of the patrons at the event were heard shouting “Jesus, Jesus” with the MC saying, “it’s cool, it’s cool”.
Whilst some shouted “Take him to the hospital,” others too screamed at the organisers giving various instructions.
The injured fan was later identified as a brother of Musician Article Wan.
The event which came off on Friday, January 3, 2020, had to end abruptly.
Many are still wondering whether after paying a rate of GHC 200.00 (about USD35), patrons sould have been treated this way.
There has been an on-going debate as to whether patrons at such event are covered with some insurance so that in any event of such nature they will be covered. Still, others are asking whether the nation really knows what to do with the ambulances parked at the State House for three years whilst more are being imported and labelled with names of constituencies.
TINA Fest is an annual event organised by UK-based Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste, FUSE ODG. It is to reunite the African Diaspora by creating a platform for Africans both at home and abroad to come together and appreciate the uniqueness of Africa through music.
This year’s event was the climax for Ghana’s Year of Return initiative.
