MUSIGA calls off demonstration

Accra, June 17, GNA - The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has called off its demonstration scheduled for next Thursday. The intended demonstration was to protest against the delay by the President to sign the Copyright Bill passed by Parliament into law.

A statement in Accra signed by the President of the Union, Alhaji Sidiku Buari, said the suspension of the protest followed discussions between the Union and the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr J Ayikoi Otoo. It called on members of the Union to exercise restraint while the Government took a second look at the Bill.

The statement noted that while MUSIGA did not object to the Bill going back to Parliament, it would resist any law, which was not in the interest of Musicians. It called on members of the Union to eschew tribalism, petty jealousies and other acts that tended to draw a wedge between them. They should forge a common front to fight their enemy "the pirate" from enriching themselves at the expense of Musicians, it added.
