The world was shocked yesterday at the news of the death of retired N.B.A. star, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, who were killed in a helicopter crash.

The two were among nine people who died in a helicopter that crashed near Calabasas, Calif. On the list were a college baseball coach and his wife and daughter.

News of the charismatic superstar’s death rocketed around the sports and entertainment worlds, with many taking to their social media platforms to register their shock, disbelief, and anguish.

The cause of the crash has not been announced yet.

Though some Ghanaians including our celebrities may not have had a personal encounter with the late NBA star, saddened by the news, majority have taken to their social media pages to mourn his death.

Bulldog, Afia Schwarzenegger, Cynthia Tima Yeboah, Lydia Forson, and others have sent their condolences to the bereaved family.

“Leaving our homes and coming back safely is such an underrated blessing” ..I can’t even begin to think what they went through. No one should face an untimely death. Soo Sorry Kobe / Gigi & to the other lost souls. No words right now!! Sending lots of light and peace to their families especially Vanessa and the girls. Rest In Peace #MambaForever 8/24," Joselyn Dumas wrote on her Instagram page.

This minute you have peace, the next there’s turmoil... Life’s iffy and fluctuating. Death is certainly certain... Eternal rest and benumbed is what’s assured. Live each day as your last because one day it will be. #YEAROFRESTORATION #sikanhyiraadomaseda
