National Union of GBC Fan Clubs holds Conference

Sunyani, (B/A), Sept.16, GNA - Mr Joseph Henry Mensah, Senior Minister has called on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Radio Fan Clubs in the country to help promote activities of the Corporation to maintain its leading role in radio broadcasting. He said GBC had a major role in the country's socio-economic development therefore, the Government assisted the Management to procure new equipment to replace its old equipment to enable it perform creditably.

Mr Mensah was addressing the closing session of a three-day Conference of the National Union of GBC Regional Radio Stations Fan Clubs in Sunyani. About 500 delegates f rom the Greater Accra, Volta, Western, Central, Ashanti and Brong Ahafo regions attended the conference. Issues discussed were, indiscipline among the youth, the spate of motor accidents and broadcasting standards. Mr Mensah said procurement of the new equipment would also enable GBC to properly educate the people on government policies and programmes, national issues and provide entertainment. He asked the Regional Frequency Modulation (FM) stations to support the fan clubs and involve the executives in some of their meetings.

Mr Leonard Amengor, Acting Brong Ahafo Regional Director of GBC commended the fan clubs for their continued support to the corporation and the radio stations in education and promotions. He asked them to point out the shortfalls and achievements of the stations to enable the management review its operations. Mr Alexander Adjetey, National President of the Union said the fan clubs were formed to promote the stations and assist the communities in which they operate in development projects. He said the Union would soon embark on a nation-wide educational programmes on Road Safety and the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). 16 Sept. 05
