Upcoming gospel musician, Abayiwa, has asserted that the majority of gospel musicians in Ghana do not know or understand what they are doing.

He said on Happy FM’s Ayekoo After Drive Show with DJ Advicer that if he is to point out gospel musicians in Ghana who are actually doing gospel, he can only name about one or two people out of the lot because most of them are doing church music, not gospel.

Abayiwa also stated that about 90percent of Ghanaian gospel musicians are hypocrites and do not exactly practice what they preach in their songs.

Giving his definition of what gospel music and church music is, he said, “A gospel song carries the word of God. It talks about the death and birth of Christ, and heaven and hell but church songs are just songs you can sing in church”.

He mentioned ‘Borborliborbor’ as an example of gospel, and Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Things fall apart’.

“If a pastor calls on Kofi Kinaata to come and perform that song, a lot of people will say he’s a secular artiste but if you listen to that song, it carries the gospel message“, he added.
