Is Asantehene adding insult to injury?

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 Source: Adofo, Rockson

“Adding insult to injury” is an idiomatic expression which means to worsen an unfavourable situation. Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, once a Canadian and a British “burger” going by the name Mr Kwaku Duah, does not baffle many a Ghanaian resident in Britain and Canada by his ongoing deplorable behaviour that is highly unworthy of the occupant of the Golden Stool.

A leopard can change its name but not its spots. His name has changed (from Kwaku Duah to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II) but not his obnoxious character as known in the Ghanaian communities in the United Kingdom and Canada.

Everybody expected that with his enstoolment as Asantehene, he would change for the better but he seems to have become worse; shamelessly misappropriating the wealth of other divisions within Asanteman whereas existing Asanteman conventions do not allow him to.

Having in his mind to benefit from quite a disgraceful, “I scratch your back you scratch my back” favours with President Mahama, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been involving himself in illegal activities tantamount to the behaviours of despots as prevailed in the 18th Century Ghana.

Why is he said to be adding insult to injury, one may ask? He has abused his powers vis-à-vis the ongoing Kumawu chieftaincy dispute. He has imposed one Dr Yaw Sarfo masquerading as Kumawuhene going by the stool name Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, on Kumawuman, contrary to the prevailing traditions and custom in Kumawu.

Asantehene has absolutely no role to play in the nomination of, let alone, the election and imposition of, a candidate, on Kumawuman, as their paramount chief (Omanhene). No custom in Asanteman allows him to exercise any such right on Kumawuman.

For his selfish ends, greedy as usual from his days living in the UK and Canada, he decided to exercise somewhat extrajudicial powers; colluding with Kumawuhemaa and the Asanteman Council to impose Dr Yaw Sarfo, an ineligible doubling as a puppet, on Kumawuman as their Omanhene.

When he was taken on by Kumawuman, after bragging that he is mightier than any court in Ghana and that his taken decisions stand taller than any court in Ghana, he has started wallowing in further and deeper muddy waters teeming with lies.

Familiarise yourself with his vainglorious bragging by watching the following YouTube posting via the underneath web link.

He runs to prostrate to President Mahama, kowtows to some judges and other so-called dignitaries in Ghana telling lies about his role played in the illegal imposition of Dr Yaw Sarfo on Kumawuman as their alleged Omanhene. He tells those people he goes crying to that the elders of Kumawuman themselves requested him to help them find somebody to enthrone as Kumawuhene when Barima Asumadu Sakyi II, Kumawuhene, kicked the bucket. This is absolute rubbish and a complete lie!

Anyone who cares to know the truth should please go back to read all my publications on the Kumawu chieftaincy dispute on Ghanaweb, Modernghana and News Ghana, formerly Spyghana.

Why would Kumawu elders go to him with that request knowing very well that he has no right to play that role?

He rather came to Kumawu elders to plead with them to withdraw a then court suit brought against Kumawuhemaa Nana Abenaa Serwaah Amponsah when she was presumed to have stolen an artefact [(“Abamo”) doll] dating centuries from the Kumawu palace. He said, “There are so many court cases pending on chieftaincy disputes throughout Asanteman. Such court cases are not auguring well for our Ashanti chieftaincy”

Following his plea, the elders accorded him respect, withdrew the case and brought it before him for settlement. Little did they know that he had his own secret agenda to pursue; a known and established human parasite and cheat as he is?

He started usurping the powers of the Kumawu kingmakers in electing a candidate for enstoolment as Kumawuhene when the throne becomes vacant. Check this by watching a YouTube video via the underlying link.

By Kumawu tradition and custom, Kontrihene and Akwamuhene, the head kingmakers, plus the Aduanahene, cannot be side-lined in the selection and enstoolment of a new chief in Kumawu whenever the stool becomes vacant either due to the demise of the occupying chief, his abdication or destoolment. I think this is so in many divisions of Asanteman.

During the purely bogus enstoolment of Dr Yaw Sarfo, the purported Kumawuhene Barima Sarfo Tweneboa Kodua, were Kontrihene, Akwamuhene and Aduanahene present? NO!!!

Therefore, then candidate Dr Yaw Sarfo had not been accepted by them and consequently, cannot be Kumawuhene-elect let alone, Kumawuhene-gazetted.

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has been lying to people in order to let his side of the story appear more credible. This is what really pisses me off. He knows he is lying. He knows he is in the wrong yet, he wants to have his way. Whose intelligence is he trying to underrate by his lies, if not his own?

He must be a man to own up and man up. He thinks since he once scratched Presidential-candidate John Mahama’s back when it was itching him so badly, it is now a payback time for President Mahama to scratch his (Otumfuo’s) back in his dire or itching quest to steal from Kumawuman. It won’t happen so Otumfuo had better reverse gear, apologise to Kumawuman subjects for insulting our intelligence and taxing our patience.
