and opaque minister of state
Coalition of Young Liberals(COYLIB) condemn in the strongest terms the scathing attacks on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as appalling, distasteful, unprofessional and anti-democratic from a syndicate of politically hired groups who are paid by their principal agents to denigrate his hard won reputation.
There are equally good, brilliant and intelligent Northerners such Martin Amidu (former Attorney General and Minister of Justice) whose admiration cuts across the various political groups in the country and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was not an exception.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia served in the capacity as former Deputy Governor of the bank of Ghana, rendered his servitude to the people of this nation and the least we expected from the create, loot and share portfolio Minister of state was trading in insults.
Constructive criticism plays a major role in any democratic dispensation, and such criticisms help to get things done right but not the reverse as was being perceived by the Minister of State in charge of Allied Financial Institutions.
The uncouth behaviour of Fifi Kwetey has resulted in the real erosion of public confidence in the government for the past five years.
It was becoming increasing worrying that the Minister of state does not know his job description and has not learned from his previous Akonfem Socialism syndrome otherwise ‘Restoring the value of the cedi lectures’ should not have warranted such an inexcusable conduct.
The Financial services have values that govern the profession, and we are highly disappointed that the Minister of state falls short of the standards set out by the global financial bodies. These codes of ethics provide a framework of professional conduct for members to achieve, maintain and apply the standard of knowledge and competence appropriate to the services offered; act only within the limits of personal competence and any authority as an employee or agent.
A mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Christina Daseking in Accra on 25th February 2014, met with Vice-President Amissah-Arthur, Finance Minister Terkper, Bank of Ghana Governor Wampah, other senior officials, members of parliament, and representatives of the private sector, think tanks, and civil society.
Ms. Daseking issued the following statement: “Ghana’s economy slowed down on the back of sizable external and fiscal imbalances and energy disruptions in the first half of the year. Based on data for the first three quarters of 2013, the mission estimates growth of 5½ percent—well below the levels of recent years. On the fiscal side, revenue shortfalls, overruns in the wage bill, and rising interest costs pushed the 2013 deficit to 10.9 percent of GDP, versus a target of 9 percent. The large fiscal deficit combined with a weaker external environment, led to a widening of the current account deficit to 13 percent of GDP and to further pressure on international reserves. The consequent weakening of the cedi together with large administered price increases contributed to inflation rising above the end-year target range to 13.5 percent’’.
The IMF mission press statement on the economy by Ms. Daseking never generated a public outcry from the NDC paid agents. It reminds COYLIB of a general quote from Rt Rev Stephen Richard Bosomtwi-Ayensu (Methodist Bishop of Obuasi Diocese); “If you wish to shake the NDC’s Foundation, simple tell the truth’’.
Dr. Bawumia is the most experienced, knowledgeable economist, who study and analyze data; his predictions and analysis have influenced in large measure by his respective understanding of the fundamentals, which Fifi Kwetey lacks as a Minister of state.
Bad language and dishonest pronouncements are characteristic traits of a rogue financial person, and this affirms Jennifer Thompson (F.T) assertion that, “bad language can catch financial rogues”.
COYLIB will not only caution the Minister of state in charge of Allied Financial Institutions with his utterances, but we are also signalling to him about his dealings in government relating to the sudden death of Mr. K.A Boakye Yiadom (Deputy Managing Director of Trust Bank).
We will adopt every opportunity within the laws of the land and ensure that justice is done at the end of his service as a Minister of State.
God blesses Ghana
