Former President Jerry John Rawlings
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has commended the people of Kyebi in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area for demonstrating against some 'distasteful' comments made by the Ashanti regional secretary of the NDC, Mr. Kwame Zu.
“I'm glad the Okyeman citizenry bared its teeth enough to elicit an apology from the NDC branch responsible,” the former President wrote on Twitter.
Kwame Zu courted controversy when he made some comments against Okyehene, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II; which the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council has described as abusive and provocative.
Even though he has apologised, the Council insists on a number of things NDC needs to do before they will be forgiven and this includes “a ritual pacification to appease His Majesty the Okyenhene”
The NDC founder in reaction said: “Let's hope our party can curb the use of strong language by some in their political discourse. I'm glad the Okyeman citizenry bared its teeth enough to elicit an apology from the NDC branch responsible. The genuine NDC borne out of the AFRC/PNDC does not disrespect people. NDC stands for natural justice, discipline and respect. Let's not sway from these ideals.”
