There is currently an uneasy calm in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region as some supporters of a parliamentary aspirant are raising red flags over attempts to oust her from the race and pave way for the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, George Mireku Duker to run unopposed.

Mr George Mireku Duker and Mrs Joy Joycelyn Andoh who are the only two vying for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency slot, are expected to go through vetting today March 1, 2020 but supporters of the female aspirant have threatened to resist attempts to yank her off.

“She has been frustrated right from picking the nomination forms to filing. We are picking intelligence that there is a covert operation to have her disqualified and we want to send a stern warning to executives of the party not to dare take such a decision in the interest of the party”, an enraged polling station executive disclosed to MyNewsGh.com on Saturday night

According to them, they require a level playing field in the conduct of the parliamentary primaries in order for the winner and vanquish to accept the outcome of the polls but reiterated that they will not allow some persons who are not loyal to the current president to hijack the party in the pursuit of their clandestine agenda.

“We have been loyal to President Akufo-Addo right from opposition till date. We have championed his vision for the country and will not allow latter-day saints who even denigrated him while he was seeking to become a flagbearer to dictate the pace for us. Someone stood on a campaign platform and said unprintable things about Nana Addo…today the same person is trying to tell us who should qualify as a parliamentary candidate and who should not? We won’t accept that”, they warned.

A total of 26 Aspirants have successfully filed their nomination forms to contest in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) upcoming parliamentary primaries in the Western Region.

Out of the number, only six female, while three aspirants went unopposed awaiting acclamation.
