  Why do we have to accept what the British said. We are now independent and can call our rulers by any name we find befitting.
  In the case of the Asante Kingdom, after the British conquest in 1774, and the subsequent deportation of Prempeh I, the Kingdom was restored in 1835 through a blebisite conducted by the British. Therefore Asante became a kingdom once more .
  The wrong move made by Asante to join the new country Ghana, has created a big problem for the status of the ASANTEHENE. Asante should have established its own country as a monarchy. This is more apparent when in 1860 Ghana was declared a Republic. In a Republic, there is no room for chieftaincy, all those who call themselves kings or chiefs in today's Ghana, don't know what they are talking about about. In a Republic there can be no kings, we are all commoners under the supreme law of the land the constitution.

  As the only holy place on mother earth where God sent a Golden Throne, we have every right to define and redefine ourselves. We can begin to fulfill it now or continue to betray ourselves by grovelling in the obscuring shadow of those who hate us.
