  It is time Ghana must start prosecuting ex-presidents and government officials who have committed corruption and other national crimes that have negatively affected the country. No body is above the law . There are other countries which have imprisoned their ex-presidents for corruption with Israel and Brazil serving as examples and Ghana is not better than these two countries to implement the same laws.

  That can only be achieved in Ghana if the media in Ghana ceases to be silent watchers that sit and just watch government corruption unfold. The media in Ghana has no incentive to to keep the public in Ghana informed on government corruption or activities. Much of the media in Ghana is either owned by politicians from the two major political parties or by their business cronies, hence one seldom sees any investigative journalism taking place in the country. Furthermore, it's not easy for private citizens to ask and receive information from government agencies. Right now, it's just one member of Parliament in Ghana sounding the alarm on dubious undertakings by government officials, and he can do so because he has the parliamentary clout that ordinary citizens don't possess. The journalism schools and the Ghana Journalists Association need to start demanding that media houses and their journalists provide meaningful and insightful coverage of government activities in order the keep the public informed. A weak or nonchalant Third Estate only results in an unchecked government, leading to tyranny or corruption in government. And you're right that all corrupt government officials, regardless of how highly placed in office, must be prosecuted.

  Well said. Once, there were enough bungalows to house government, high ranking military officers and high ranking Police officers across the country. That is, till crooked politicians from the two major political parties saw it fit to sell these bungalows to themselves and their cronies. Today, the government has very few bungalows left, and tax payers are left to fund government officials needing housing in the all the regions. Folks have to speak out, and never be deterred when the thieves and looters hit back with threats or denials. And the looting of other government assets just continues without any end in sight, all because the country has no clear laws or regulations regarding the purchase of government assets by government officials. It's not even unusual to see a government official's company or bank doing business with the government, even though such transaction can clearly been seen as a conflict of interest and can't pass any ethics litmus test. It's going to take Parliament, with assistance from law experts, to pass meaningful legislation that will offer clear guidance on the conduct of government officials and business dealings with the government. If there were laws that clearly spell out what these government officials can and can't do, then private citizens could take violating officials to court to seek relief for tax payers. In a country like Ghana that is deep in corruption, it makes no sense to leave ethical decisions to be made by each official. There has to be a written code that clearly precludes all government officials, including any companies they may own, from engaging in any form of business with the government while in office.
