What is the alternative when leadership has failed and is driving the country and future generations into self inflicted destruction?
If the only way to drive home the point of action is through a shut down so be it. We are not in normal times and we need a strong action that will force the hand of the authorities to act to save us all and not a few.

Leadership has failed because we've all failed leadership! We've not been supportive enough; citizens, political parties, and security services as well. They burn their excavators and equipment and we accuse government of high handedness. They arrest them and opposition parties promise them amnesty and continuation. Security forces are deployed and they collude with them to continue. How can any government fight such a menace?

If government officials have find themselves deep into galamzy used stolen money to buy equipment to mine do you go arresting hungry boys are employees and leave the employer?

Nana just be patient and after dec 7 results declare a state of emergency and revoke all licenses Ed in forest reserves instruct the military and set up a special unit to go round and burn all equipments in the forest and on river bodies and instruct shooting to kill on site

First of all, let me ask this so called lawyer. Are the laws made for the benefit of men or men are made for the laws? Is there any law which is sacrosanct which doesn't need amendment? So, if a law made to benefit the people but that law turn to be killing the very people it was passed to protect, the people should sit down and die?
Mr. Lawyer, remove some of your legal lenses and apply common sense to remember that, "Water is life"! The very sources of water for the citizens are been polluted by these mining activities. Government who is entrusted the authority to protect the interest of the people has turned blind eyes to the problem. Now the people want to register their displeasure because their lives are at stake, you are talking about law. Go and fetch River Densu and see if you can even bathe it let alone drink it before you continue wearing your legal lenses.

I would rather have thought that organised labour would advocate a demonstration against those engaged in galamsey, that the nation is at war with them and won't countenance such irresponsible acts, and are standing behind government to use any means whatsover, to fight them; and invite all political parties to join. This would have made a greater impact.

I think if someone is doing something that is threatening to kill your people you have to eliminate the threat and ask questions later. Let them go to court, let the cry... We must stop them. Even if they went to court and got a judgement, it would be much cheaper than a life or lives.

Foolish writeup.The workers under the organize labour enjoy article 36. Read that as correct minded Ghanaian not align with any political party. It is your right to ask questions when your freedom to buy food, and the freedom to drink clear water threatened by illegal mining. It's a shame that those who are there to protect the poor are rather bullying them. Tell the leaders of organize labor that they are disgrace to society for stopping the strike. What's the guarantee that any single proposal presented by the so-called government will be honored. It's shame to all of us that at a critical moment to stand up for our future, we gave up to outside pressures to the point of threatening to fire workers if they go ahead to participate in the strike. What a shame. We will be judged strongly by our generation as the unpleasant generation who sold their future for cup of tea. From now to December we have signed our own death warrant by drinking,cooking and eating, breathing in Ghana. Ask him to go and read the journal of neurotoxicology and teratology and toxicology sciences. Will give him the mechanism by which mercury may damage muscles and motor control. In short ,our musculoskeletal system. Nobody is immune.

This man has written that labour unions don't have the right to fight for a better environment in a country and workplace for their members.
The whole country is an enterprise and the head of state is the managing director.
The best managing is he who make sure that his workers work in a healthy and clean environment.
That workers don't eat contaminated food and drink polluted water.
The issue of contaminated food and polluted water is more serious than the wages and salaries of workers.
So this writer got everything wrong.
