Why assume that people are more interested in job creation than which political party is in power?
That is a major flaw in your analysis. People are more interested in seeing particular political parties in power than any other consideration. There was dumsor for four good years. Did that come with job creation? The people who experienced dumsor and unemployment were the same people who were calling for the return of a particular political party.
