  clearly those with influence find it relatively easy come into possession of land circumventing the laws that apply to most - they then use the very laws they have ignored to to hold on to the land in perpetuity - leasehold allows the rich to stay rich and the poor to own nothing

  This article you have written is very informative. Although I am not a Ghanaian, I have pondered about purchasing a home in Ghana. If one thinks of his children or their children, after his/her death. The question should be; what if the lease is up and the government doesn't renew it? So really your not passing anything to your offspring. Yes, one could sell and receive money from such sell. But sometimes passing property to family is more important. I am all for freehold. Thanks.
