  A man or woman who betrays his or her marriage by committing adultery can be likened to a soldier who defects to the enemy's camp- THEY HAVE BETRAYED THE TRUST PLACED IN THEM BY THEIR NATION, THEY HAVE BROKEN A LIFE-LONG VOW OF LOYALTY AND FEALTY TO THEIR NATION. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY HAVE BECOME A TRAITOR OR "TURNCOAT”, TO USE MILITARY PARLANCE OR SPEECH. Traitors of this kind may still OUTWARDLY profess loyalty and allegiance but in reality, be SECRETELY in cahoots with the "ENEMY". So, a man or woman who forsakes their spouse and sets up home with another becomes a traitor (using your military analogy) and we all know what fate awaits soldiers caught in this HIGHEST FORM OF BETRAYAL. IN THIS CASE THEY ARE WORSE THAN DESERTERS.
