Some decades ago my friends and I were eager to assist Kwaw Ansah to promote his films.
The organizations we used were the Ghana Soviet Friendship Society (GHASOS) and the Soviet Ghanaians Trained Graduates Association (SOTGA).
It was the same organizations we used to promote Professor Bedu Kossah.
Being intellectuals and will be intellectuals, I mean GHASOS which members are in two categories, graduates of Soviet higher educational institutions and Ghanaians who were aspiring to enter higher educational institutions through the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat.
There was also another man whose name I forget whose products we promoted. We call him Mr. Porkshow.
That was the time the majority of Ghanaians said they don't have anything to do with pork.
We attended institutions in the Soviet Union and got associated with the Soviet society.
The Russian Orthodox Church did not ban alcohol and pork, so some of us had good time with the priest of the Russian Orthodox Church during the period of vacation, where we meet and interact with them.
Those days there were rumours from western press that a foreign student who had interaction with a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church or a Russian dissident will be expelled from the Soviet Union.
I was an atheist before going to the Soviet Union to further my education, at the time when the Soviet Communist Party was the authority.
My lecturers never caution me of association with priests of the Russian Christian Orthodox Church or dissidents. In particular, I need a person who was against the policies of the Soviet Communist Party to discuss issue with. My desire came true when on nice summer holiday I met the then soviet dissident Professor Andrei Sakharov. We had intellectual discus for two hours and in the end the Professor said young man you won the day. We did not meet again and in 1983 I left the Soviet Union, having completed my course.
So member of SOTGA AND GHASOFS took the burden on ourselves to promote any intellectual who had the difficulty in promoting himself or herself in the aspect of his or her endeavour.
And they were success.
Kudos Mr Kwaw Ansah, Ghanafo says thank you for making an impact in our motherland Ghana. God bless you and enjoy more healthy years ahead as you gracefully age on sir.
