  World market price of cocoa like gold have been fluctuating since we were young from the 70's. We are not going to reinvent the wheel. Cocoa Marketing Board has been in this business for years learn to admit errors. The yield per hectare continues to go down and emphasis is shifting to new gold concessions in Upper Denkyira, Wassa etc destroying more forest cover.If we don't stop or plan ahead to reintroduce mass cocoa spraying, modern maintenance systems, improved yields, pollination etc there will be no more cocoa, no forest cover, our position as world no. 2 will be wiped out. Just like we are trying to refine our gold locally can't we process and consume our own cocoa into usable products in local kitchens in the villages, hamlets, etc why should it be at the processing factories. Cocoa failure is staring at us. Why should Ransford Abbey be the one to tell the world Ghana's farm gate price is too expensive. Doesn't the Ministry know the maths of the dollar/cedis on the cocoa price. May be the Cocobod should be brought under the Ministry of Agriculture for the meantime until things stabilise. Seed production units, Cocoa Research Institutes of Ghana, Bunsu Agric Collage etc are all down. Cocoa has been our mainstay for so many years. Our country continues to be agrarian and we must pay attention to it. The deep gold mines at Obuasi, Tarkwa,e Prestea, etc, are they exhausted why now surface mining destroying our lands and our cocoa employing over 800,000 rural farmers.
