I live in Europe, not in the warmer part where the tomato plant has a long sunny period to thrive in. I am in the middle of the continent.
I have a 4 meter by 6 garden in which I grow among of vegetables, you guessed it, tomatoes. Each year I plant approximately 25 tomatoes which cover only one meter by three of the garden and the yield from these provide me with at least 45 350gr bottles enough for my annual needs. Of course there is a lot fresh tomatoes left over to share with friends and neighbours and for summer and autumn salads.
This, however, does not preclude me from occasionally buying special fresh tomatoes.
My question to the author of the article is: "Do you produce your own tomatoes? And if not why don't you do so before berating Ghanaians?
I used to live in Ghana and had a little plot and didn't know what to do with it. A friend suggested I plant pineapples. Well I knew nothing about pineapple cultivation but I knew the pineapple expert at the Ministry of Agriculture so I consulted him. Do you know what? The expert sent his assistants to peg and prepare the land, fetched pineapple suckers and planted them. They monitored the growth until harvesting. Everything was so professionally done. I was so grateful to him. But I'll tell you what, this expert did not have his own one meter by one patch of pineapples. Sad isn't it?
Now if Ghanaians are that lazy and have this much money to import what they can easily produce themselves then let them go ahead. They have no one to blame for their stupidity and indolence.
This my little rant.
Have a good day!
