  Arab slavery in East Africa, spanning roughly from the 7th to the 20th century, involved the capture and trafficking of millions of sub-Saharan Africans, predominantly through the Indian Ocean and Red Sea routes. Centralized in Zanzibar and the Swahili Coast, it was driven by Arab traders to meet demands for plantation laborers, domestic servants, and soldiers in the Middle East.
  Key Aspects of Arab Slavery in East Africa.
  
  Scale and Duration: Running from the 7th century until the early 20th century, the trade saw an estimated 10 to 18 million Africans trafficked, with Zanzibar serving as the key hub by the 19th century.
  
  Routes and Destinations: Slaves were transported from the East African interior to the coast, then shipped to destinations including Oman, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, India, and Indian Ocean islands.
  
  Zanzibar and the Swahili Coast: By the 19th century, increased demand for cloves and coconut plantations under Omani Arab rule made Zanzibar a major center, where up to two-thirds of the population was enslaved.
  
  Purpose of Enslavement: Enslaved people were used for agricultural labour, household service, military service, and as concubines.
  
  Abolition: Pressure from Britain forced the sultanate of Zanzibar to restrict and eventually abolish the slave trade through treaties between 1822 and 1897, with final emancipation of slaves occurring in 1909.
  
  
  Impact on the Region.
  
  The trade had a devastating impact on East African societies, causing significant loss of life and fueling regional instability. It established the Swahili culture through the mixing of Arab and coastal African populations. The trade also caused massive population declines, as slaves were often captured from the interior, carrying ivory and other goods to the coast.

And, we do not expect our Arabised and Islamised African brother Mr Ras Mubarak to write thesis about his benevolent Muslim Colonisers. . These are facts not rumours, and it is for the benefit of discerning Africans. Now, Read the facts for yourself. Ras Mubarak will never, ever tell you that.. On top of that, they gave us Boko Haram, Janja Weed, Isis, Hezbollah, Hamas, Al Shabab etc,etc. Ras, I presume, this Arab Cultural Arrogance was for the upliftment of us as Africans.   Historically, there were very few, if any, prominent Arab scholars or leaders who are widely recognized for organized opposition to the Trans-Saharan slave trade itself. While some Islamic teachings encouraged freeing slaves as a charitable act, many scholars, such as Ibn Khaldun, actually justified the trade by interpreting the enslavement of non-Muslim Africans as lawful.
  
  Justification over Criticism: The dominant intellectual trend in Arab society during the Middle Ages was not to criticize the slave trade, but to find legal justifications for it, often focusing on the enslavement of non-Muslim "infidels".
  Contempt and Prejudice: Cultural and literature sources from the period often displayed contempt for dark-skinned Africans, which served to justify the trade, rather than produce abolitionist arguments.
  
  Late Abolition: The abolition of the trade in Arab countries often came due to external pressure and the banning of the practice .
