When Karl Marx was asked the question about religion. He said that the question about religion has been answered already.
He said man made God, God did not make man. Religions is as a result of man's consciousness. During the process of cognition man lost consciousness and replaced his humanness with an unseen illusion that he place above himself.
The greatest discovery of Karl Marx is Surplus Value in his Capital.
Karl Marx stated that surplus value is the thief of the greater part of the labour that a worker expanded in the production of a value.
In order to extract surplus valuer the capitalist refused to pay the worker all the labour he expanded on the production of value.
Meaning that during the process of labour the worker use his labour either physical or intellectual to turn an object and add value to it.
He may be working in a factory where he change things found in nature to make them useful, by using his physical labour and intellectual knowledge and with the help of a machine to turn an object to social usable product.
In trading and commerce he used his knowledge and skills to make profit.
But the employer pays hims a fraction of the labour he expended on production of value in any form and keep the greater part. That greater part is what the employer calls profit.
So profit is labour that is stolen from workers.
In socialist economies just like capitalist economies when surplus value if generated care is taken that the majority of it goes to the worker even if not directly, in various forms like education, health, infrastructure, roads, security and others.
So a trillionaire become a trillionaire because he steals the value of workers labour.
