Spending roughly US$20 million in a single year on fibre repairs while trying to expand digital infrastructure is an expensive contradiction. The numbers show the problem is persistent: thousands of cuts annually, driven largely by construction and poor coordination rather than isolated accidents.

Treating fibre as critical economic infrastructure requires the same discipline applied to roads and power. “Dig Once” rules, mandatory mapping before excavation, and clearer accountability for damage would reduce repeated costs and free capital for actual network growth. Without that shift, Ghana will keep rebuilding the same links instead of extending them.
