  PLS, DONT DARE INCLUDE DR. NKRUMAH IN THIS. THE PPL OF GH NEED TO STOP VOTING FOR THE SAME USELESS POLITICAL PARTIES WHO HAVE BEEN VICTIMIZING THE ORDINARY GH. IF YOU LOOK AT THE POLITICAL HISTORY OF GH, U WILL REALISE THAT THE NDC AND NPP HAVE CONTROLLED THE LION SHARE OF THE POLITICAL LANDSCAPE. MY QUESTION IS THIS? WHY CONTINUE TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES? EVERY 4 YRS, THE AVERAGE GH VOTER MAKES THE SAME MISTAKE N VOTES FOR THE SAME CROOKS. IT SHOULD TAKE A ROCKET SCIENTIST TO REALISE THAN DR.   I must admit that I haven't the foggest idea which political leader would make a good president for Ghana as I haven't read any policy document yet or followed current debates. However, I think you've raised a crucial point as regards the mindset of the Ghanaian populace in choosing leaders. In response to your question: WHY CONTINUE TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES?, I'd suggest that only the heavens can possibly fathom this perrenial issue. While others might spot on for identifying bigotry, tribalism or ethnocentricity as the answer to your question, I'd narrow it down to our sub-standard social institutions particularly the education system which doesn't fails to cultivate a questioning mind in our students. We're taught to preserve the status quo and embrace traditional orthodoxy. Across the globe, what we see is that a nation with a highly literate citizenry tends to demand more from their political leaders by holding them accountable. The literate population can discern if a government hasn't lived up to its bill and consequently oust them from office in subsequent elections. The situation is Ghana is different. Intellectually, we're still backwards. Everything has to be explained by recourse to the supernatural. Evidence doesn't really count when talking about life chances. Many people can't read , let alone understand the substance of any policy and its consequences. The few who can perhaps read, lack a deeper understanding to make any informed choice. We really need to revamp our education system...one which offers equality of opporttunity for all alongside promoting critical thinking skills. By creating a highly literate society, there might be a chance of revising this pattern in Ghana where self-indulgent, corrupt and ineffective leaders are offered leadership positions every four years. So, to suggest illiteracy as the cause might seem simplistic, but one can't downplay the impact of high levels of illiteracy on mindest of individuals.

  I really like your response and the revision of the educational system might work but don't underestimate the power of tribalism, regardless of how our minds develop. For example, it will take the second coming of Jesus to have the Volta Region vote differently and that is what is killing the country. Why did God create such a situation for us. There are several instances of poor performance and yet the people would always bring them back. You are worshipped when you steal millions but when you steal a chicken, you receive instant death. Ghana is a funny country to say the least and we are so proud of our stupidity and ignorance that we describe ourselves as civilized. We need to start challenging these leaders and assassinate them for poor performance, abuse, misuse, mismanagement of the public trust and resources.

You're definitely right in singling out bad leadership, which I'm afraid, cuts across all political parties. I don't think it really matters the numbers of years a party has been in office. What matters most is what a government does to transform the life chances of the masses, especially for the poor.

  Addo, this is the type of articles that should gain frequency on this website by virtue of its ability to highlight the individual Ghanaian and the strides being made by him/her to survive...in an economy that has seen a lot of turbulence but is edging along however slowly.....good work...Addo, I don't know if you are reporter, but this style of yours is the first I have seen on this website in the last decade....writers who ought to capture the daily struggles and achievements of Ghanaian need to pound the pavement in search of such human-interest stories....they abound in Nima, Kejetia, Tafo and Alaba.....

  Ghanaians must challenge their leaders to a higher performance standards and demand accountability of the resources they preside over. We must stop worshipping those who steal public funds.
  We must stop lynching those steal chicken and go after those who steal the millions or misuse the public funds. The resources they abuse do not belong to them but all of us. We need to start assassinating these fools and they will think twice before running for office if they don't have the intention of serving the public.

  Dixy, you mentioned critical thinking I grew up in a culture were even at elementary school it was encouraged. Even in popular culture there is a questioning of religious dogma, popular Sci Fi shows as standard, that explain complex environmental and physical phenomena. There were documentaries that question the whole basis of religion by giving detailed explanations of how Europe became Christian in the first place. That it was more about political power than spiritual enlightenment, I have seen no such thing in Ghana on TV. Mostly allot of religion, and more religion then magic and no questioning as to actually where it all came from.
