A normal person would not supervize the killing of Felli who took 50, 000 cedis (about 40 new Ghana cedis loan, and yet allow his wife to take over Nsawam cannery. A normal person would not be insult and call his perceived opponents names. Rawlings is just a holier-than-thou man! He claims to be speaking for the masses, but wants the best things in life for free: food, water, housing, cars (jaguars, etc.). Let us be real here and say it as it is and stop currying favor from the reading public!

However, as years went by and I gathered more information about him, my attitude towards him became more balanced. I realised that he has an [extremely] good side, just as he has an [extremely] bad side. The two sides of him, in the end, balance out and make him a normal human being.

The writer is saying in effect that Rawlings is not just all bad. He is bad but not all bad. There is some good in him. That's what makes him normal. And all of us who are "normal" have a Jekyll and a Hyde in us.

The writer has not overlooked Rawlings bad deeds at all. Don't make it look as if he has done that.

In all practicality, Revolutions are not normal, day-to-day, civil events. Whilst many of us now abhor the Revolutions we experienced in Ghana, the fact remains that in their era, most Ghanaians trooped to support them. At least, the people saw a need to set aside the "normal" way of governing, the status quo, if you will.

So, we should sadly but boldly admit that we drove our Nation into those slippery grounds. Thank God we have managed to get past them and let us all hope we would not encounter that set of conditions anymore in the Future.

Talking of the 50,000 Cedis, could Akadu tell us with airtight validation what the REAL value of that amount was in our Society at that period. We should not down-play the bite of Corruption on us in those days by making any weightless comparisons of monetary values of that time and now.

It is also very important that we understand that it was more for the principles that were breached in our System than the sheer material values associated that threatened our sheer existence, even though in the case where the value is unprecedentedly prohibitive, it could heighten the rage of the people offended by it.

I do not think Akadu would deny the Corruption that was rife in our Governance in those times, and that our basic infrastructure was let to rot away fast with alarming increase in the loss of lives.

The fact that Corruption is on the rise today does not necessarily discount the urgency people felt in those days to expect something drastic to curb the vice. That would be a mistaken retrospective excuse for the corruption.

Surely, it is most regrettable that some of us lost their lives in those Revolutionary times, and we must do all we can to avoid reliving those days, both in recollection and practical physical existence.

Does Akadu know how much that 50,000 would be valued in today's terms? An investment of that magnitude in Walmart or Coca Cola, for example, would be worth tens of Millions of Dollars. If Woyome had taken that amount he is keeping away from us now, in those days, he would not lived a week more. And yet, today we have seen it fit to use the Court to resolve such an issue.

That does not make us any less of humans in those days as we are now. But we have learnt from our past that the killings do not really bring justice.

I have said many a time that Rawlings is not one of my favorite presidents,
BUT THE FACT REMAINS THAT:
When a man FORMS AND OWNS a majority share in a company, he has every right and more, to criticize his CEO, when things are not going in the right direction. You RESIGN your position if you do not like or do not agree with the Chairman of the Board, to please your heart’s desire. Better still, you form your own company, if you have the guts and means. Same applies in politics: Those disillusioned and hate the FOUNDER of the party they belong, ALWAYS RESIGN, AND FORM THEIR OWN PARTY, period!
THOSE IN THE NDC who found Rawlings a nuisance, irrelevant and unwanted, SHOULD HAVE RESIGNED AND FORMED THEIR OWN PARTY. Instead, the freeloaders hijacked RAWLINGS PARTY and declared him irrelevant!

In politics, the party FOUNDER AND LEADER has MORE CLOUTS, AUTHORITY AND SAY than any member! Amadu Bello was calling the shots, while Tafawa Balewa was the Prime Minister of Nigeria, and so it is in other parts of the world!

Rawlings FORMED THE NDC., and as the “Chairman of the Board” have every damn right to criticize the party and Mills when the party’s policies and goals are not being followed.
Government changes hands (by the voters) to make things better for the governed. They take post-mortem examination of the past to determine where things went wrong. New governments, with candor, prosecute, arrest and punish previous administration’s wrongdoers, when proven and deem necessary! Former leaders of governments around the globe are probed, investigated and prosecuted all the time! U.S. president Bill Clinton was investigated, prosecuted, persecuted for a company he and his wife ran (Whitewater) TWENTY YEARS BEFORE becoming president. And so were, and are others around the globe, as we speak.

When that legend Nkrumah was clandestinely overthrown, ASSETS OF ALL HIS MINISTERS, ALL CPP MEMBERS WERE FROZEN and their properties CONFISCATED! TOO BAD FOR THE TRAITORS, NKRUMAH DID NOT HAVE a “penny” at any foreign or local bank. Not even a TENT!

When the toothless and spineless Mills blatantly left the NPP crooks off the hook for all that they have plundered and looted, and Rawlings started criticizing the Mills administration, the NDC freeloaders were at Rawling’s throat, (including his wife) which played into the hands of the clandestine tribal NPP hoodlums, dying to dismantle the NDC and would love both Rawlings and the NDC to disappear from the political scene. The freeloaders in the NDC, on the other hand, have struck a bonanza: Weak Mills can be easily manipulated to keep their mouths at the trough, and so it was, it is, and going on as we speak. Disgustingly Mills and his cronies treated Rawlings as an INTRUDER, A NONENTITY, and as NUISANCE!! Yet, he is undauntgd, and follows his beliefs and principles.
Spineless Mills would have gone before Rawlings in reconciliation: Rather, arrogantly, he expects Rawllings (THE FOUNDER OF THE PARTY to come to him, ignoring the fact that without Rawlings, there would not have been “PRESIDENT Mills”

And so, to those die-hard tribal hounds, (in collusion with the NDC freeloading rogues)
RAWLINGS IS ALWAYS TALKING TO CRITICISING MEMBERS OF HIS, REPEAT HIS NDC, HIS PARTY, NOT THE NPP, WHO SHOULD KEEP THEIR BIG AND LONG MOUTHS AND NOSES OUT OF THE AFFAIRS OF THE NDC, positive or negative!

I don’t know, if Rawlings will have the nerve to accommodate Mills this time or turn him loose ...or.. will try to SAVE AND SALVAGE the party he fought hard to form.. Seems to me he is in a quagmire… leaving Mills in the limbo will embolden that jungle, chronically corrupted, tribal party to again seek political power!. How many million-dollar houses, hotels and cars are we to see, if that happens!!

And for Christ’sake, are you telling me there is NO educated, politically QUALIFIED, AND PATRIOTIC GHANAIAN, AS AN ALTERNATIVE for the inept Mills or the tribal baron, Akufo Addo, to stand as an INDEPENDENT candidate?

The losers?? The common man on the street.

JJ Rawling's fall from grace is now total and complete especially now that he has been shown to be irrelevant to the fortunes of the NDC his own party. Basically he no longer holds any terror for any Ghanaian. If I was him I would retire , stay out of the lime light and enjoy my pension and only giving heavy weight commentary once in a while. I believe this is one approach that could at least partly restore him to a place of respectability in the minds of Ghanaians.

His wife claimed that their children's school fees in Ireland were paid by "good friends". When JJ imported those SUV in about 2002 and was asked the source of the money to pay for them, he claimed that "good friends" paid for them and went further to say that even if his head was chopped off he wouldn't reveal their names. Could anyone who faced the Citizens' vetting Committee use the same lame duck "good friends" excuse and get off? Are they the only ones that have good friends? Now, of Mawuli was not aware, Rawlings was the head of the country and paid salary for 19 odd years and the only thing he would buy from his allowances was probably toilet rolls. Ask how much parliamentarians and Ministers are paid since 1992 and make a tally.

First, blame Boakye Gyan for releasing Rawlings after a successful coup, and blame him again for trying to get some 188 military officers shot at Teshie, but for Rawlings who was against is from the beginning and had to go along it; Rawlings took the responsibility as a leader.

I can bet everything that if this country had stayed Military for at least 10 years it would have been the best country ever in Africa.

You think you know Rawlings? But about two-thirds of Ghanaians still don't know the man. For a country like Ghana, Black and useless, whose citizens fail to recognize that unless there's a mentality change about how corruption is addressed - which to me is very simple, guys like you will continue to blame others for corruption when you are all part and parcel of it.
