I don't know where Mr. Atta got his information, but on the issue of salutation of the Speaker, it is strange that he is complaining!
Kofi Atta got this one wrong about the President not acknowledging the Speaker! The entire inauguration was an open Parliamentary Session in which the Speaker was officially in charge.

I watched it live on Joyonline, and I remember the commentator even explaining why the President addressed the Speaker first in his speech! The first words the President used were "Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament"!

Your opinions on the investiture are very fantastic, although, I disagreement vehemently with many of your stances. Permit me to differ with you on the AU president's speech and the congratulation of the president by the other visiting presidents:

What you have to know is that, the AU has restructured and reformed itself into a proactive partner in the forward match of progressive African states such as Ghana and as such a voice was given to the AU personified in its chairman for a wellwish message during the august ocassion of the investiture of our president.

On the congratulation of the president by the other visiting presidents having to walk on the long red carpet to celebrate with him on his hard won victory at a close and personal encounter; my position is that it was beautiful and added colour, pomp and peagentry to the ocassion. We are in the 21st centuary and needn't still hold fast on to old and archaic obstructive strictures that hold us back. Allow Ghanaians to also invent/impact on how presidential investiture ceremonies are organized to the modern world; must we always wait till the west invent/change something before we copy it hook line and sinker?

Please wake up from your infatuation with everything US/UK, for we have long moved from that in the modern Ghana that we now live in.

The people who were hailed from rags to riches, from holding the door, to door been held for them, from a skinny chap screaming his lung off atop abongo car to one of the few fat cats in town. Following protontorowa is the least of Ghana's problem. Having said that, what I'll commend you for is, in your attempt to scrutinize what it all means stumbled into something that worth exploring. And that is first, NDC intends to turn our democracy into a monarchy, not British monarchy but Saudi Arabian one, free hajj for muslims is a case in point. So your President becomes Sheik Oma Ben Ali John Dramani and his Ala brotherhoods. Second, they'll protect and defend nobody, never mind what the constitution spells out let alone state protocols. Third, NDC has no respect for no other institutions of gov't excerpt the executive branch, and now the Atuguba Supreme Court, and do not bowl down to foreign gov'ts most of whom are illegitimate,embroiled in conflict and corrupt theselves. So if you live in Ghana your life is in jeopardy and must be aware.

In fact, worse in many respects, as many peasants are very cultured and refined, and woe betides you if you break traditional protocol before them! I doubt if you know such traditions and how to observe them properly.

They sent you to school so that you'd acquire the ways of the white men, modern civilisd ways, I suppose! They have hope of nkosua, ngoryiyi - progress - but what savagery are the so-called educated people inflicting upon them?

At least he has learned something watching TV. That's why he knew that the swearing in was botched. Just as some others he watched too.

This is certainly not one of your best articles.Formalities are only followed for the sake of order and certainly protocol is not on the top list of Ghanians.But for the record,this ceremony was adjudged as the best presidential inauguration in Ghana ever and don't be a kill joy.It was beautiful and the protocol of African of head of states going to greet the inaugurant is an African innovation of solidarity and comradeship in arm.In short i will say Ghana should keep it up but there is always room for improvement.
