Surely, what one experiences after lower and tertiary education, is more important to shape your life;your eventual success and failure in life, depends upon what you go through and utilise at the "street university." If body goes through life in this "street university" but not the formal university;entering the formal university to do degrees and other courses, seems to depend on opportunities which not many people could have. Steve, congrats for yet another brilliant article. You have started the year well, let it continue -let the thought-provoking -articles fro rapidly this year. Thanks and usual congratulations from Senior Akoks.Your numerous admirable readers like Oliver Twist are asking for more! Bye for now.

"You should learn to become what the American, Mark MacComack, describes as a "street-smart executive". McCormack shows how to read people, create the right impression, take the leading edge and sell successfully, and more. All these would never be taught at any university."

Stephen, I'm very surprized tht you did not mention reasoning and critical thinking skills, the reason you have to depend on someone else's work to write your article. It does not matter how brilliant one is, if we do not have these skills it leaves us at the mercy of those who have it. The learning by rote is just too much!!!!!!

This is particularly true with respect to our country. We some how assume that those who have had formal legal training are the best minds, have a monopoly over wisdom and are the only people best suited to be politicians. Their names are preceded with "Lawyer" this and that. And yet they open their mouths and they come out with a lot of bull***.
Education is a life long process. Self tuition and growing your mind as you feed your stomach thrice daily is the path to finding enlightenment. What we need are critical thinkers with a philosophical bent a moral compass not arrogant, shallow minded and egotistic pettifoggers masquerading as lawyers who are holding the country to ransom.

The last paragraph of the article gives a very poignant summary of the author's contribution to this all-important subject. True, learning extends beyond school and university.

We are in the material world and we must be relevant to it: success is knowledge with reasonable money and support for the less fortunate.

Good article. Life indeed teaches us more than life does. The one thing worth mentioning is that. in this competitive world of ours, you absolutely need university education to have a shot at the attractive jobs out there.
