First, the ideas ferried by the quotation below is incomplete! What are the similarities between the real Katanga and the Hall? You write
"Surprisingly enough, the University Hall identified some striking identical characteristics with the Katanga province. In no time, the first Hall President was nicknamed Moise Tsombe (after the then leader of the Katanga province. The name Katanga was then bestowed on the University Hall and it has remained so till this day. It was not the Secession spirit of the Katanga province that appealed to us but their sense of purpose and their exceptional gallantry in determining their own destiny."

Second what specific achievements have come out of the activism - one or two cogent examples would have been great!

The writer did justice to the article, the thrust of which is the advent and raison d'etre of Katanga as a University Hall Of Residence. It is not about the Congo uprising and the leading role Tsombe played in it, so the writer rightly mentioned these episodes in passing. To accuse him of inadequacy begs the question.Expatiating on the Katanga uprising would have made the piece more informative, but giving it a cursory glance under the circumstances does not make it inadequate.

I came to Katanga from GSTS as a first year student for what was termed Junior College in the fall of 1963. I can truly say I am among the early Katangese!!

I would have thought many years after quitting knust you would have grown up into a matured person. No right thinking fellow, will jettison the contributions of Continentals in the scheme of things. When Katanaga had to take any action with respect to activism =, they sought the consent, no not consent, the craved the involvement of Unity Hall without which any aluta was bound to fail. There are several occasions when emmissaries from Kat hall will attend Conti JCR meetings to know what conti and a hall was also planing before any united action of kust campus could be formulated and prosecuted.
You obviously dont know the history of knust student activism when you discount the role of Continentals.

I spent 4 solid years at Katanga, in the years when Mr Osei was at the Porter Lodge and Paul at the Canteen, but several years later I have learnt its history.

The writer could have gone beyond praising Katanga and highlighted the impact KNUST has had on the Ghanaian society at large.....Katanga obviously housed engineers, architects, designers and other skilled professionals who went to contribute their quota however miniscule to the overall development of Ghana....singling Katanga for effusive praise is all good and dandy, but mention the entire university in the same breath....

From the title, it is very clear that Courage is writing about University Hall (aka Katanga) and not about the entire KNUST.

The university authorities will be in a better position to write about the entire campus.

Some might argue that it was excess but what is a student without excess-excessive "chew and pour", excessive ponding, excessive women, excessive drumming midnight to make sleep unbearable!
