  It's unfortunate that some illiterate southerners parading as intellectuals know next to nothing about other areas of the country but resort to lies and insinuations.
  
  At the present, there is no free education anywhere in the north. The only fees paid for by the government is feeding and boarding. Tuition is free throughout the country paid for by the government.
  
  You continued to praise Katakyie, please Philip, if you want to be taken seriouly don't compare yourself to that tribal bigot illegal immigrant hiding in Enfield, North London.

  Nothing scandalizes me as much as outright fallacies such as the popular lie that the north enjoys free education to the exclusion of their southern countreparts. Apart from seeking to perpetuate the notion of injustice, it also serves to portray the northerner as lazily living off the generosity of their southern brothers. Yet nothing could be farther from the truth. Without seeking to reignite the debate on the justification of the policy of education for the northern territories by the colonialists and Nkrumah, it is important to underline the similarities between the predicament of the northerner and that of the African in the world stage. Sadly,both are often viewed within the prism of a lazy, aid- dependent and good-for =nothing buffoon deserving of the nothing but the contempt of the civilised world. But the northerner as much as the African deserves more than that. Indeed, northerners would rather that the qeuivalents of the Achimotas, Mfantsipims, Holy Childs, Prempehs, St Peterss to name but a few were also eatblished in the north at about the same time that they were established in the south, instead of half-hearted handouts. The North would rather that its economy was delberately and purposively supported and empowered as was and is being done for the economy of the south so that they can generate jobs and wealth to pay for the fees of their kids who attend such schools and not free-education that ranks the best northern shool as only good enough to place 215 in a league of beat shools in Ghana. Given the love of the northerner for and commitment to education, i have no doubt that were they to have only three Achimotas in the whole of the North, they would've flooded the the universties and polytchnics and possibly gone ahead to dominate the civil and public services as well as the private sectors of the country Like Africa, the Norths yearns for development and not aid. And while we are at it, the debate is muted as to whether the Cocobod scholarships under which kids of farmers from the Brong Ahafo, Ashanti,Western, Eastern and some parts of the Volta regions enjoyed extensive finacial support amounting to more than the total budgetary allocation for northern kids equates free education and therefore should warrant a review.

  In every society there are differentials in development pattern, and it is not the fault of anybody.
  
  Japan did not ask the British and the Americans to give them a head start when they realised their backwardness, they took control of their destiny and dominated. Head start has never helped anybody in the world.
  Regarding the cocoa scholarship, the problem is due to the management. If they pay fair prices to the farmers there will not be the need for scholarship. If you doubt me question why farmers every now and then engage in smuggling.
