You might be 21 and a student but you are intellectually matured than some PhD holders in Ghana who are using section 104 of the constitution which states inter alia,

(1) Whoever has unnatural carnal knowledge -

(a) of any person of the age of sixteen years or over without his consent shall be guilty of a first degree felony and shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of not less than five years and not more than twenty-five years; or

(b) of any person of sixteen years or over with his consent is guilty of a misdemeanour; or

(c) of any animal is guilty of a misdemeanour.

(2) Unnatural carnal knowledge is sexual intercourse with a person in an unnatural manner or with an animal (12 Jan. 1961). The word unatural carnal knowledge does not mean homosexuality because homosexuality does not mean anal sex. This President better get good advice on this issue before they disgrace his office issuing comments to an issue they have not made a good research on.

The criminal Code does not expressly prohibit sexual relations between same-sex individuals.

Even the President of Ghana supposedly the custodian of our laws made a mockery of himself when he used this unatural carnal knowledge law to state that homosexuality is a crime in Ghana. It's really sad when the President of a country is a liar.

However the argument should be Homosexuality CAN LEAD TO HAVING ANAL SEX OR UNNATURAL SEX.In this regard, section 104 of the constitution should be revised and in my opinion it should debar homosexuality in GHANA.

Given the global context of recent developments, Homosexuality if not tackled early in GHANA can be forced under our throats as a Religious Country which the Bible,the Koran and other religious books do not allow this form of relationship in society.

Debate means formal discussion of a topic or subject. For a debate to be false then it should be untrue.
There has been a discussion on Nana's nomination as a public servant to uphold and protect the rights of all ghanaians. Fortunately or unfortunately as they say, the discussion turned out to be a public discourse on Nana's personal views on the legality and protection of the rights of homosexuals. Even when she equivocally and consistently said that her job will not involve any personal effort on her part with regard to promotion/leglization of homosexual practice, her detractors wanted to label her as such in order to derail her nomination.
The debate may have been about a "more relevant subject", ie, the legality of homosexual practice, which is the point, I think the writer is trying to make.
For Nana's opponents, protecting the legal rights of homosexuals also invariably means that Nana will promote and advocate for homosexual behavior to be legalized. Nothing can be far from the truth. Protecting the rights of homosexuals irrespective of whether homosexual practice is legalized or not, and having a personal/private stance on the practice and legality of homosexual behaviour are not mutually exclusive.

But, I beg to differ with to caption of the essay. My opinion? The debate has been and continues to be a very good one.

The present debate, even if it is not addressing the issues the young writer thinks should be the proper focus, is encompassing the vexed issue of homosexuality, tout court, in Ghana. That is something we have to confront sooner or later.

But, barring a few inarticulacies, Hagan wrote a good piece for which he must be commended. And he made the relevant point that the youth have a more tolerant attitude to homosexuality than the old. That is why it is shocking that NUGS has been reported to have added their voice to those of the bigots. I hope NUGS' position does not represent those of the broad mass of Ghanaian students.

In the same vain your illogical poverty of reasoning is that while the law bans an anal penetration of a wife's anus, in the same vain it does not ban it if he penetrate the anus of a man.
It even unfortunate when people make these statements and write them in support of what they call human rights. In the near future a murder will tell the court that he agreed with the person he murdered to bleed him or her for a sport, and since it is a sport and not an intention to kill the person the court will set the murderer free.
Every sensible human being is aware that sex is the first thing that brings a man and woman together. It is sex that send both of them to bed. Mr. Ebenezer Hagan want us to believe that love without sex brings two male or female adults together, but at the same time their union as it is in all unions is to have sex with each other.
The British who told us to swallow homosexuality with its hook, line and sinker or they will withdraw their economic assistance to us are themselves debating the issue of gay marriage today. Thus the homosexual human rights is just like the evil of opium that was forced on the people of China. We call it Gay Wars and it is no different from the Opium wars that Britain, U.S. and their allies waged against the people of China to force them sniff opium. We wrote about the health implications of homosexuality and will not repeat it today.

I would like to correct some distortions that you create;
1.I Never said the law does not ban anal-penile relationships between homosexuals. The point made, which is rather obvious is that that ban applies to both homosexuals and heterosexuals. I further stated that since that ban cannot be interpreted to mean a criminalization of heterosexual relationships, that ban cannot be said to amount to a criminalization of homosexuality. Both homosexuals and heterosexuals engage in anal sex.
2.I Disagree that relationships are always founded on sex. What I find right to believe is that there is more to relationships than sex. I do not deny that sex is an important part of every relationship but there can and there are relationships where no sexual contact takes place. Assuming without admitting that your point is true, there is no evidence to show that all homosexuals engage in anal-penile sexual contact. Note that, the law only makes criminal anal-penile sexual contact. Where the sexual contact involves no penetration, SECTIOn 104 cannot apply.
3. It is rather in character that some persons who engage in this debate would raise pedestrian points that are as meaningless to the issues being discussed as they are diversionary. I refuse to be drawn into that. I appreciate your opinion. Cheers.

There is not law that prevent men to befriend a man or a woman to befriend a woman, but it is when they practice homosexuality and lesbianism, that is the crux of the problem.
If the issue is about the normal friendship and not having anal-canal sex with each other there will not be a hew and cry over it, and nobody need to debate for making it legal, since friendship between the same sex is not a crime.
You seem to sound like a mad person who was caught trying to rape a young woman. He quickly released the young woman and said if I did not hold you would have bitten me. I wrote for instance an orientation is a social category, rather than the biological and the dictionary which you quoted said the same all along.

The other point, which i believe i have already corrected is the assumption you make rather without any basis that all homosexuals do engage in anal sex.There is no evidence to show that.

The practice of homosexuality is not an adjective for 'anal sex'. I also assume per your readings you may have come across other forms of sex besides virginal-penile and anal-penile sexual contact,if you haven't then it is rather unfortunate.

It is a knowledge that in such relation one man assumes the position of a female and his anus is penetrated by his partner who is the man to satisfy his sexual instinct.
Thus as there can not be a heterosexual sexual marriage without the man penetrating the woman's sexual organ. In most societies penetrating the anal of a person is a homosexual act even if the other party is a female.
You want to pretend that we push food through any opening, but the nose for instance is not meant for chewing food. I am 60 but have not strayed into the anal of any woman before.

The fact that you are 60 and have not demanded anal sex from a woman does not mean it doesn't go on. Instead of the condemnation and vituperation I think the majority christian Ghana and the hospitable civil society can show some love and empathy for our kith and kin whose sexual preferences may be at variance with the norm.What happened to christian love and compassion? What about forgiveness, tolerance and patience > What about loving your neighbor as yourself? The truth is that most ghanaian christians are only christians for the few hours they're in church service.Unfortunately some of the seed (the word ) sown on that day fall on the wayside, some on stony places and others fall among thorns. The pontificators of virtue and morality are after all just hearers of the word but not the doers. If they were doers they'll do as the Savior did, sitting and dining with the sinners of his day, preaching repentance and the forgiveness of sins to them. Shockingly it's the christian church goers, the children and relatives of the christians who are turning to this way of life. There must be something wrong with the christians and the way they teach their doctrines and principles and the way they practise them. What about their thieving, lying, fornicating and adulterous perverts aka pastors? How about doing a self analysis and finding what has gone wrong with the christian religion in Ghana? There has to be a house cleaning first before they start pointing accusing fingers at others. (Removing the log in their eyes before attempting to remove the mote in the neighbor's eyes). How about reaching out in love through missionary work and fellowshipping to those they consider as sinners?
How do we justify the criticizing of a concept that we have little knowledge and understanding of? There is more to the homosexual concept than the eye can see and the mind can really understand. What would you do with a child born a boy with a penis but in every other way behaves like a girl? It's not right for such children to suffer discrimination, taunts and jeers, ostracization, bullying and name calling from their peers in school. Some of these kids would rather commit suicide than endure the suffering and rejection of peers. We all have the same basic needs( peer group and societal acceptance) included and when they are violated suicide is often considered. Is this an acceptable solution to homosexuality? I don't think so.
What are our national values? Can we please take a second look at our value system and traditional practices to find out if per chance some are outmoded and need to be changed to reflect the changing times. The world is changing very fast and it's referred to as a global village now. Are we going to be able to become part of the global village and keep walking while everybody else is running or flying?
