No doubt the only competent local coach we have is Sellas Tettah. GFA should give the job to him as soon as possible. Appiah can still be an assisstant coach to help Sellas Tetteh. At least he was able to discover Dauda, Wakaso, Asante and Atsu. I take my hat off for these brave guys. They made their names. To me, these guys are the pillars of the team- if one is down or substituted the whole team shakes. My man of the match was Wakaso. The only reason why the coach removed him was maybe because of bribe. I will never understand the reason why. R you kidding me? the guy just even scored a penalty and you take him off during extra time? HOW? WHY? Kwasi Appiah need to be seriously questioned for this STUPID mistake no coach will make. It's like substituting Frank Lampard during extra time when England will need him for the penalty

Hand 2013 Africa Nations Cup title to Nigeria -Dutch football legend, Ruud Gullit
Written by Ganiyu Salmon - Lagos
Thursday, February 7, 2013
DUTCH football legend, Ruud Gullit, believes the Super Eagles are as good as winning the 2013 Africa Nations Cup following a spectacular performance on Wednesday when Nigeria beat Mali 4-1 in the first semi-final of Afcon 2013.
To him, the turning point for Nigeria was the win over the highly-rated Ivory Coast team which Nigeria beat 2-1 in the quarter final.
‘’I think the Nigerian football is the best on display. They have a strong and clever way to get the ball behind their opponents especially with Mikel dictating the direction where the passes go,’’ Gullit told Supersport.
He gave credit to Stephen Keshi’s tactical options.
‘’Against Ivory Coast, everybody thought the Eagles were coming to defend but they came for attacking play and it paid off. With that mindset, they came to hurt the Malians’’.

IF THEY HAVE JUJU...TYPICAL OLD FOOL SET IN HIS WAYS. HW3, IF WE ALLOW APPIAH TO CONTROL THE TEAM, WE WONT QUALIFY FOR WCUP. TRUST ME.
CAN U IMAGINE GH GOING TO BRASIL WITH THIS ALIGUNTUGUI STYLE OF PLAYING? JESUS CHRIST! IF DESAILLY CANT TAKE OVER, ALLOW MAXWELL KONADU.
MAX IS A SMART GUY. HE IS NOT SUPERSTITIOUS LIKE AKWASI APPIAH. APPIAH BELIEVES IN THINGS HE HIMSELF DOES NOT UNDERSTAND, SO HE WILL ALWAYS SUFFERS.
THIS IS WAT WE CALL SUPERSTITIION...LIKE JUJU! MALLAM CHOP YOUR MONEY FREE!
HW3, IF APPIAH ISNT FIRED AS FOR ME, I AM WASHING MY HANDS OFF GBSTAR
TWEEEAAAA.....APPIAH, WO Y3 TOKE!......
INTELLIGENT COACHES DESIGN INTELLIGENT PLAYS FOR INTELLIGENT PLAYERS. U SEE THE CONNECTION? DUMB/TOKE COACHES..........
WHY AKWASIA APPIAH IS A TOKE COACH!
JAMES AKWASIA APPIAH HAS NO BUSINESS COACHING GBSTARS. WE HAVE SEEN ENOUGH OF YOUR SHENANIGANS. JAMES AKWASIA APPIAH, WO Y3 TOKE.
IF GHFUO WANT BETTER. THEY MUST ONLY ENTERTAIN DESAILLY OR KONADU AS THE NEXT COACH. TONY BAFFOE FOR GFA HEAD. NYANTAKYI N APPIAH MUST
GO N SEEK JOBS ELSEWHERE. WE R TIRED OF THEM! YA BR3 MO MUENU
LOOK AT THE MANNER IN WHICH WE PLAYED? ALUGUNTUGUI SOCCER PAA DIS? GH DISPLAYED HORRIBLE SOCCER IN THIS TOURNAMNT ONLY TO BE KNOCKED OUT SORELY
AND HORRIBLY IN THE SEMI FINAL. EVEN WHEN THE REF/CAF WERE FOR US, AA STILL COULDNT GET IT TOGETHER.....WE SAID WE WILL SUBSTITUTE LESS CHAMPAGNE
SOCCER FOR WIN AND A TRIP TO THE FINAL. NOT ONLY DID WW MISS OUT ON THE FINAL, BUT WE FAILED TO EXHIBIT THE CHAMPAGNE SOCCER GH IS NOTED FOR.
THEREFORE, AKWASIA APPIAH MUST COMOT FOR KONADU OR DESAILLY TO TAKE OVER.
NFA CHANGED AMODU, SIASIA AND NOW KESHIE AND NOW LOOK/ GFA BETTER GET RID OF APPOAH IMMEDIATELY. GIVE DESAILLY OR MAXWELL KONADU THE FULL REINS. NO MORE WHITE COACHES!

JAMES AKWASI APPAIH IS NOT INTELLIGENT, IM SORRY. HE HAS A TIMID BRAIN AND AT HIS AGE, NO LEVEL PF NATIONAL RESOURCES NEEDS TO WASTED ON HIM. LOOK, APPIAH HAS HAD MORE GH HELP THAN NAIJA HAS GIVEN TO STEPHEN KESHIE, BUT NOW LOOK? GET RID OF APPIAH, AND ELT HIM USE THE EXPERIENCE HE HAS GOTTEN AFTER ALMOST A DECADE TO GO N COACH FOR ANY CLUB IN GH OR WEST AFRICA!
LOOK, I COULD HAVE TAKEN THIS TEAM TO THE FINALS AND EVEN WON THE AFCON TROPHY. WE HAD A GROUP OF PLAYERS WHO WERE ALL IN FORM, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PAINSTIL AND DEREK BOATENG. DEDE'S EXCLUSION WAS UNFORTIUNATE, BUT I TRULY BELIEVE GH HAD A GOOD TEAM. THAT NOTWITSTANDING, UR TEAM CANT DO MUCH WITHOUT EFFECTING DIRECTIONS FROM THE BENCH. THAT WAS OUR ACHILLED HEEL. GIVE TEAM BURKINA, TEAM NAIJA OR TEAM NIGER OR ZAMBIA TO AKWASI APPIAH TO MANAGE, AND THE RESULTS WILL BE FAR WORSE.
GYAN KEOT DISAPPOINTING GAME AFTER GAME. YET, AA STUCK BY HIM SHOOSING TO START HIM IN EVERY GAME. WHY?
WHY USE KASA AS LEFT BACK, WHEN KISSI BOATENG IS A NATURAL LEFT BACK PLAYER?WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME CLUB ESPERANCE USED AFFUL AT LEFTBACK? AFFUL IS NOT A LEFTBACK, BUT A RIGHT BACK. HE PLAYS THAT POSITION FOR HIS DAILY BREAD IN TUNISIA....BOYE KEPT MAKING DEFENSIVE BLUN DERS AFTER BLUNDERS, YET AGAIN AA WAS DEFIANT IN STARTING HIM IN EVERY GAME. LIKE WE DIDNT EVEN HAVE OPTIONS ON THE BENCH? ADOMAH IN 4 GAMES WAS VERY SUBPAR AND COULDNT DELIVER ON CONSISTENTLY, YET AA WAS DEFIANT IN STICKING WITH HIM, WHY? AKAMINKO, BY FAR THE MOST FIT N STRONG PLAYER ON THE TEAM MADE I MISTAKE AND HE WAS BENCH FOREVER, WHY? EXPERIENCED PLAYER LIKE JONATHAN MENSAH WHO HAS BEEN TO U20 WCUP, WCUP, AFCON WAS NEVER USED IN THIS TOURNEY, WHY? WHY START RABIU AGAINST BURKINA WHEN ANNAN WAD FULLY FIT ON THE BENCH? I MEAN I SIMPLY DONT UNDERSTAND THE SIMPLE LOGIC OR HOW AKWASIA APPIAH BRAIN WORKS. AFTER ALMOST A DECADE WITH GBSTAR, HE NEVER SEEMS TO FOLLOW COACHING LOGIC. HE SOMEHOW THINKS HE KNOWS BETTER THAN EVERYONE. YET, U YOURSELF APPIAH HAVENT WON ANYTHING SUBSTANTIAL IN YOUR COACHING CAREER. THE ALL AFRICAN GAMES TROPHY U WON WAS THRU MAXWELL KONADU'S BRILLIANCE. MAXWELL HAS WON THE LEAUE TROPHY WITH KOTOKO. HE RECENTLY QUALIFIED OUR U20 TO AFRICA UNDER VERY SHORT NOTICE. HAD IT BEEN APPIAH,HE WOULD HAVE GIVEN EXCUSES FOR NON QUALIFICATION. IN 3 AFCON'S WE HAVE GONE FROM FINALS TO 2 SEMI FINAL PLACE FINISHERS. WHY, BCOS WE CANT SEEM TO DO AWAY WITH THOSE NEGATIVE ATTITUDES LIKE COLLECTING BRIBES, LACK OF DISCIPLINE, FAVORITISM IN THE GFA AND THE GBSTAR. NYANTAKYI AND AKWASIA APPIAH MUST GO.

The only thing we consider in Ghana as our only national identity is the Black Stars. Years ago when Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko were chosen to represent the Ghana Black Stars, hell did not break lose. The nation backed them so stop the idea that tribalism is the cause of the problems of the Black Stars. We rather need a sound technical team and players who can commit to 110% of effort in winning games. The team we just saw in the Afcon was not a winning team. It was a lame team. Period.

Ghanaians wake up and relize the coach is not good enough to take us far.. he don't even have the swag to lead.. why play kwadjo asamoah as defender and he is the one of the only attacking players we got in the tournament..." Since the coach didn't select the ayew brothers... I mean i thought we do experiment with players in freindly matches not a fucken tournament.. what's wrong with Ghanaians..??????? Wake upbringing corruption.... There is a reason why the GFA gets 5 millions plus dollars and they don't do shit.... But then u give the fucken Olympics team 60 thousand... Ghana why don't we have all our players... Because they fucken players don't respect the coaching stuff... We need discipline and dedication.... With a corrupted organization there is no trust and dedication... WE MISSED THREE PENALTY KICKS.. WHY IS BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE EXPERIENCE MR. COACH KWESI.. PLS READ THIS.. PLS READ THIS... U NEED TO GO... AND I THINK THE WHOLE GFA SHOULD GO NOW.. TIME IS UP FOR A REBUILD... NEW YOUNG PLAYERS.. OW WE NEED SOMEBODY TO that THAT STYLE AND TEACH THE PLAYERS WITH CONFIDENce not dumb stuff... Is simple arithmetic... We about to kick a penalty kick.. why take wakaso out.. Jesus Christ.. pls God how can I get this coaching job if u not going to hire marvel.desaily ... God Damn it.. The players celebrated when they heard the Ayews were not coming? Who told you that? And if it is true, then who created the kind of environment that made it possible for players to celebrate the misfortune of their colleague? It is as unprofessional as it is silly.
We have just had one of the worse tournaments in our history with a coach who has no coaching pedigree and you think the wisest thing to do is encourage him to take us to the World Cup.
Even if Coach Kwesi Appiah had managed Wa All Stars and taken Asante Kotoko to Africa, you could argue he had some proven managerial acumen. We would give him a chance. Unfortunately, his only record at senior level is what we have seen and it is not good enough! Period! The Black Stars deserve better.
Appiah is building for the future with Rabiu and Wakaso? How old are these guys and how old are the Ayews and Waris? Whose future is he building? And when you create an environment where players celebrate at the absence of a colleague, then how do you hope to then bring these guys back?
Mourinho once said, that "I need time to build a team" is the biggest lie in football. WE have seen nothing to convince us Appiah can do the job and he must go!!

Appiah has his flaws. Tactically he's not up there yet and a little education or push can help settle things but sacking is not the option. Give me a reason why we should go for a $60K plus coach instead of a local? I know you've not said anything about a foreign coach but that's absolutely where it'll lead to bços by the words of people like you, our local coaches are even scared to apply for this position. Appiah was very brave to have taken this job and it should stay as such. He's started a thing and he needs to finish it. At worse, we'll replace him with another local coach but for now he'll still take charge. How many coaches can take a new team and turn them around in just a year? Just a hand full all over the world. Let's Appiah stay on till the W/C qualifiers are over. At $20K, he's taken us to the semi finals, it's the same position Plavi took and he was costing us $55K a month. Just do the aritmathic, does it add up in any way?

I did say right from the start that we needed somebody like Sunday Ibrahim as an assistant if we were going to stick with Kwesi Appiah. Good assessment, especially on the defence issue. That having been said, I feel Ghana deserves some measure of praise for a fight well fought. Just that Burkina Faso showed more stamina during the 120 minutes and better composure during the penalties. My advice, keep the coach but get him to start working on the shortcomings noted during this tournament. Your day will surely come!

We lost the match because AA did not have the balls to change Asamoah Gyan, Ghana's Roger Miller. Some of the chances he missed were as good as penalties, so he should understand to that he not good for us anymore, it's time to retire again. It's time to rebuild, retire Derrick, Painstil, Annan and Gyan. Sulley should be the only one to keep from the 2006 wc squad. Recall the Ayews, abeyie, and Aquah. Bring in Frimpong and Yaya to strengthen the midfield and warn Badu about complacency. Send John Boye to the right defence because he will commit penalties in the box. We lost the game because of AA, Gyan, and Badu. Put politics aside and call the right players; for it is not understandable to call Adomah and leave A proven abeyie behind. Replace AA for someone with balls.

The writer seems to want to make some "fetish" of what he terms is man-management of the Ayew brothers! Why axing the boys from the team if they were indeed recalcitrant and disruptive is not man-management? The modern era is not where to practise going after one stray sheep and leaving the 99 aside and disorganised!
No-one is indispensable, no one! Their presence could, and would, have helped -- but they're not irreplaceable! If they were found to be disruptive elements in the camp, then, it's still an exercise in man-management to remove them from the team! Football is a team work -- not an ego trip of individual emotional immaturity!

Kokolikoko..I see what you mean but I tell you honestly, Chris Opoku is right in his call for man-management.
You know the thing is that you and I and most of the readers live abroad and we have kids and we know that our kids who were born abroad will have been exposed to a different kind of social standards that the locally-born kids in Ghana would not have been and so they may react differently to different situations.
I personally spend a lot of time with the Black Stars and I have met the Ayews and Derek Boateng and KPB, Adam Kwarasey et al and have had many conversations with them and I can say that there is a fundamental difference between these players: That the Ayews and KPB, Kwarasey will behave differently from the other tier of say Derek Boatend, Muntari et al who were discovered locally and then taken abroad and so have come to see the ways of professional footballers, and these will also differ from the Fatau Dauda group who will do whatever it takes to get recognition and so will not hesitate to join the bandwagon of those creating the impression that the foreign-born player is difficult to manage -NO DISRESPECT TO FATAU PLEASE!!
In fact, right in front of me, at Kotoka Int Airport, John Paintsil, whom I was conversing with at the time, passed a sly comment when he realised that the GFA Liaison Officer who was checking him in was according Rahim Ayew the same treatment as he was after all not in the Black Star team at the time...but this is a peer at least in terms of being national team players, past or present or knocking on the door. This was a far back as when he was flying to London to join the rest of the squad for the Ghana v England match.
There is even a difference in how the older Rahim Ayew-who was brought up in Ghana before leaving most recently for Belgium- will behave in camp as opposed to his brothers who were born and partly brought up in France.
We now see from KPB's walk-out even during a Milan match and his subsequent recognition by the United Nations for that action as reason to know what the various boys in the teams view as right and rather manage them.
So Chris Opoku will be right in saying that there was joy in camp when the Ayews were excluded but that a Coach should allow that to determine his decision to do so since he would have know about the supposed divisiveness influence hence his decision shows the level of man-management we have in our camp.
We were all disappointed by KPB's decision but if we had taken his real grievances into consideration, we would see a kid who grew up always having to fight for what he wants and so will immediately see anyone who stands in his way as the obstacle, but who will be perceived by the local-based players in the camp and also some of the foreign-based local finds as one who has had it all since he is after all a foreign-born Ghanaian with a white woman for a mother. S, that they will support the call for him to be labelled as a divisive figure and therefore be happy if he were excluded will not be surprising.
The truth is that GFA is not doing their bit to manage these boys and their various temperaments, yet they are always on the go looking for Ghanaians born abroad. GFA is not doing what it takes to make the local player not perceive the foreign-foreign born player as the enemy.
KWARASEY LOST HIS CONFIDENCE NOT BECAUSE HE IS A BAD GOALKEEPER AT ALL BUT DUE TO INTERNAL BULLYING AND JEALOUSY.
In all of this I ask why would the GFA not seek the advisory consultancy of Tony Baffoe...for he would possess the skills to manage the temperament of these boys as he is of their disposition.

Thanks for your insight into issues involving man-management. I guess going forward some of these coaches may probably have to look into these guys background and the like. But seriously, Chris mentioned man-managing Balotelli but the person who touted himself as been very good at that (Mancini) had to let him go. It's an indication that it's not all the time that this would work.
Again, I'm also concerned about this issue of hear say. Has Columbus really got proof of this? If not, then sorry to say that part smacks of gutter journalism. But overall, I agree with most of his suggestions. At least Kwasi Appiah could be maintained whilst we get another experienced coach to partner him. I guess we're not overlooking the fact that, if these players (especially Asamoah Gyan) have done their work well and have even utilized one of the numerous chances that came their way, we will not be shouting from roof tops today asking that the coach be sacked, and the GFA be disbanded.

I don't think Chris Opoku will just pull that out of thin air. That said, i agree with Blaque on his assertions about man-managing players. I think the GFA as a body does woefully bad in managing player egos. This problem had been with us for a very long time as far back as Abedi's days.
Their mismanagement is what breeds chaos in the team. One wonder why the heck they ever dreamt of pursuing Balotelli if they couldn't manage KPB and now just these Ayews?
Ghanaians have certain behavioral traits we pick up unconsciously in our upbringing. Right through our schools we are taught not to question authority or the elderly even if they are obviously making dumb decisions. However these players who grow up outside have a completely different perspective and most times would insist on being heard... what we term "too known".
So obviously our local boys will always see the foreigners as "too known" and looking at Appiah and how timid he looks, he probably won't know how to handle them either so he sides with his local boys in terming some players "too known" but they come out to call it 'disruptive influence'.
They should seek expert help and stop messing up.

I agree with the fact that GFA should have handled the Ayew brothers situation much better, Asamoan Gyan is not the man for our striking position, Derek Boateng is incompetent, Kwasi Appiah should be retained but should analysis his performance in the AFCON, and accept the fact that he made grave mistakes which cost us the game with BFA. A well written piece, the difference in the match was that whilst the stallions defended once they loose the ball in the opponents area, the stars will just walk away when they loose the ball and allow the stallions to build their attack purposefully from their side. Gyan was the worst culprit. This caused our defensive midfielder Rabiu to work overtime and once he was remove the gab was there for them to score Boateng is not a defensive midfielder and has no experience in marking opponents, he is at best a holding midfielder but has now lost his speed of taking on opponents, his good side is that at his prime he can direct the game from the holding midfield role just like Xavi of Baca. The stallons knowing our attacking obtions were playing with two defensive midfielders who got support from their forwards who joined in defending right when they loose the ball. During our warm up matches when Gyan was not playing, our forwards Yeadom and Adoma joined in defending and were able to score goals against Egypt and Tunisia from such action. Appiah you did well but we aspect more. it seems you gave too much consideration to do Gyan to deliver the goods. Build a team full of leaders who knows what to do at all times. The team as it is is okay, you may wish to bring on board, a defensive midfielder to add to Rabiu I suggest you recall Essien and Acquah, Frimpong and try them so that we can have two defensive midfielders when we meet tough opponents just as we had Essien and Appiah before and we hardly concede a goal. On the right back and left back positions you need to search more we have only Afful as at now Painstill has lost his speed and has no place in the team. The attacking midfielders, we have overstaff and anyone from the pack including the Ayew brothers can play once they fit into your team building ethics. On attack I feel you should consider Warris for he has prove his form with his club in Sweden.
FINALLY I WAS ASHAMED WITH WHAT OUR SUPPORTERS WERE CARRYING TO THE FIELD. GHANA IS MORE A CHRISTIAN NATION AND WE SHOULD DO AWAY WITH CARRYING PORTS OF JUJU TO THE FIELD WHILES THE PLAYERS PRAY ERNESTLY TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD. WE CANNOT WORSHIP GOD WITH OUR MOUTH WHILES BELIEVING IN OTHER GODS TO HELP US ACHIEVE VICTORY.

Chris, you got it right on most of the topical issues, and there is a case to be made for keeping Akwasi Appiah at least in the short term. I'll however look at it from a different perspective.
I think we need to assess Appiah's performance more from a team management perspective, and whether he got it right when he decided to overhaul a team that had almost reached the semi-finals just a year ago at the World Cup. Team selection and man managing your players, especially your star players who usually have big egos, is a critical aspect of team management. We are all witnessing the difference that key players such as Victor Moses, Alain Traore, and Pitroipa are making for their respective teams during this tournament.
Andre is currently Ghana's best player (based CAF rankings) and to have found petty reasons to exclude him from this important tournament shows Appiah's deficiencies as a team manager. Who told you that managing a team of stars is easy? Ask Mourinho, Mancini or Sir Alex...however, that's what differentiates a great team manager from a mediocre one...Appiah failed even before the tournament started and it was evident in our quality of play...in the short term, there is a case to be made for keeping him to help qualify for the world cup... But in the long term, his lack of expertise in the team management department does not make him an ideal candidate, unless he learns and learns really fast.

it is true that Akwasi did a lot of mistakes in terms of experimenting Kwadwo Asamoah at the defence and taking off Wakasu during our last game with Burkina but he has to be maintained to build the team for Brazil 2014. He should also call the Ayew brothers and manage them. He should not make a mistake to show his revenge from the squabbles that existed between himself and the Abedi Pele. That is past and gone. He was then a player but now he is a coach; a national coach indeed who has to satisfy the entire populace of Ghana. That animosity was between himself and Abedi Pele but not his sons. He should show maturity by calling them irrespective of the bebaviour.

The problem with BS are in two fold
Preamble:
The first president, Kwame Nkrumah decided to propel his ideology to Africa and the World at large and as a matter of fact, used the BS as a symbol of victory and success by the black man.
He used the Kankan nyame as the corner stone upon which the BS was built.[Nkrumah Was an idol worshiper]
He then espoused and propelled his ideologies by the continuous success of BS and the of course rituals/sacrifices to the “kankan nyame”
situation
Now there is no pacification for the god.
Solution
1. Pacify the “kankan nyame” the foundation stone os Black Stars
2. Change the name Black Stars to something else[best choice]
Nigeria found them selves in similar situation in time past, all they did was to change their name.
A word to the wise…………

I better sleep at the same spot I slept last night. Meeeewuradze Nyankopon, Papa Appiah agrees with me on this? Well thanks bro.

Chris is too modest, time has come to call a spade a spade. akwasi appiah and his tech team displayed such stupidity they should never be given a 2nd chance.
What a stupid comment. What has stupidity got to do with this.

Have you got any manager in mind to replace. Calm down and think before responding.

Wrong. We would have lost if the referee wasn't biased, true, but we would have lost by about 2. Burkina Faso are good but not that good.

the first time i saw him i new he would achieve nothing..because timidity has taken the better part of him..
