  One has to guard against foreign interference in our affairs, nonetheless, we cannot be captive to culture. Culture is dynamic and not stuck in time. It becomes oppresive and reactionary otherwise. That's why the death of the Asantehene does not mean the murder of innocent citizens any longer. If a cultural norm is bad by our modern values, then it has to go. In fact, a lot of what we would call culture would have been the will of one person in that community - the chief or his priest, so please, we should not hesitate to abandon 'bad' culture. What happens to able-bodied people who become disabled through, say, an accident? Do we treat them as pariahs? For a country that claims to be 'god-fearing', we do lack compassion

  Is there freedom of conscience in Ghana? Why no priest of traditional religion was present at the inauguration of the Flagstaff House yesterday. Fellow countrymen an women you see how the talk about freedom and human rights is cheap. Nana Oye Lither can not even acknowledge the freedom of conscience of traditional religion, yet he and others including Prof. Atufuah howl to the high heavens that they defend human rights. It is an irony that even a murderer has more rights than those who practice traditional religion. President John Dramani Mahama also fail big on this issue by not respecting the freedom of conscience and the freedom to practice any religion.
  Article 2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states: Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self governing or under any other limitation of soveriegnty.
  Article 18 states: Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right include freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
  Fellow countrymen and women you see how the "friends of the people" freedom and human rights activist even in government expose their ignorance about the dignity and freedom of the human person. We said that people say things that they do not understand just because someone outside the country is saying it. When it comes to the real freedom and rights of Ghanaians they do not have any clue about it.
