Say it again! I´m really worrying Ghanas posititon today. What kind of people are leading our country? It is so sad to read such an article. You start so nice to analyse your stand point. Then you change your style to bring in tribalism. But for what? I would like to understand your reason of describing the inclusion of other players of in the Black Stars as Ashanits because of their first or surnames and even what is wrong to choose the best players to play for Ghana, even if they Ashantis, Akans, ewes, etc. I really pitty you because you don´t deserve to hold or make use of your name.

We need piece. The Black Stars tried everything possible to win the match against Burkina Faso but it fails because we lack motivators like Appiah and Essien or Ayews to read the game. We need to create difference stand to our players than before to win the best players for the country. Corruption from the side of GFA must end on the spot. GFA have to invest in building more sport centers and encourage profesional trainings on for example how to shoot. And they should also protect the players from their fans or Ghanaians in time of hardship.
This problem has a complexity and can not be explained with tribalism.

The boys did their best and you and me can´t play better unless we were on the field playing for our country.

I think Kwasi Appiah made serious mistakes in placement of players to be effective.
First, I always write against the style of play of Black Stars relying on a sole strike. A lone striker formation is wrong, wrong for Ghana. Because Ghana do not have a tactical or clinical striker. We could use lone striker Opoku Afriyie, or the likes or Mohamed Polo, not Gyan. Consequently we mostly win games by lone goals and or by penalty.

I am surprised that Coach Appiah called only three strikers in the contingent Black Stars team. We need to call four strikers per every Black Stars team. In each game, we must field three strikers and have one reserve.
Coach Appiah relied so much on a lone striker Gyan who is not clinical and or tactical. In our recent games, opponents who knew how to deal with Gyan simply double team against him. Gyan simply got reduced to ineffective. I do not blame Gyan, he tries to do his best.

Rather, we should play with 3 strikers in each game. This way when Gyan is double teamed, the other 2 strikers could take advantage or Gyan could create chances for the others.
Further, I think Coach Appiah's selection and changes in a game is questionable. I did not find it effective to allow Gyan continue play even though it become obvious that he was not being effective. Why should Kwadwo Asamoah be selected to play defense? while he has proven to be effective at midfield with his team Juventus. Why should Coach Appiah replace Wakaso heading into penalty shoot out? Why a player in the like of Anthony Annan never used in the tournament?
Having argued all of the above have does no suggest that Coach Appiah is tribalism like the writer suggested. Coach Appiah may simply be a matter of incompetence.
Papa Appiah, you concluded your article with the menace prove of what you are. Hatred and havoc blankets your thought of claim. You are a disaster to the progress of our nation. With many people like you who have the ability to write, Papa Appiah you are the acid and dangerous to our society. Why and how could you conclude in your piece that the Coach Appiah is tribalism. You are a dangerous citizen of Ghana.

When folks start to talk about the Black Stars as Ashantii Stars, I question their metality. They don't even have the facts to support their claim but they say it anyway. When did Asamoah Gyan and Agyeman Badu become Ashanti? From reliable sources, Akwasi Appiah is not an Ashanti. Certainly Vorsah may not be an Ashanti. No one should use the Black Stars to preach tribalism - they are our only national identity left. If the current crop of players in the team did not perform well all we need to do as a nation is to encourage our administrators to lay down better structures to hunt for new players plus retaining the good ones in the current team. There is no need to make references to tribes because the team has lost their games, except for cheap popularity. For those of you new comers, did you know that in our soccer history, Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of OK were on some occasions called upon to represent the Ghana Black Stars and the nation supported those teams all the way. Papa Appiah I believe you are more tribalistic than those you are accusing of being tribalists.

Asamoah Gyan is from Berekum and Wenchi. 100% Bono. Any body who went to a good school in Ghana knows that the name Gyan can be traced mainly to Berekum,Nsuatre and Techiman all in Bono.Pls check the background of famous Ghanaians like Afari Gyan and Ntow Gyan. Agyeman Badu is from Berekum. The name Adomah is a Bono name and has its roots in Dormaa and Nsuatre. Kwasi Appiah himself is a Bono from Duayaw Nkwanta. Maxwell Konadu is a Bono from Techiman.

l don't think that any of the Ashanti players bribed their way through, this is a learning process for all of us, unless you have hundred percent prove that favored some people. Lets not forget that he has never been a coach for the Black stars before,so of coarse he will make mistake.
Again, l would like you to suggest a few good local coaches to the GFA, all we want is to see a good team that can win matches. 1. The Burkinabes did not resort to long passes. Rather they passed better and kept better possession of the ball. They used their PHYSIQUE ADVANTAGE to 'intimidate' our 'small' players. Count the number of times our players fell upon contact.
2. Vorsah. It is 'insulting' to describe Vorsah as an untested player in the department of penalty taking when you have no idea what penalty- taking plans the team adopted during their training sessions. From what I saw, Vorsah knew beforehand that he would be the first to take the penalty. Vorsah (and Boye) had played very well in that match so his confidence was high. Indeed, he was so sure he would score that when he finally missed his 'shock' was openly written on his face! His face was not pitiful as you would expect from someone who did something lacking confidence; he was rather shocked that he did not score. So dump it!
3. From the third paragraph to the end,the writer wrote as if he had some 'bones to pick' with Akwasi Appiah (and Ashantis). He wrote as if Akwasi Appiah once 'stepped on his toes' or 'snatched his girlfriend'! He was very livid!
-Who said to be a successful coach you need to form and coach a team successfully in your youthful/young adult days?
Again, what has trying to "snatch an armband" got to do with the success of a coach. Granted that this unnecessary point was true, doesn't it rather portray Appiah as an 'ambious' ready to lead guy?
- Let the writer know that a coach is at liberty to 'experiment' with other players to find a better fit for his strategy. That was exactly what Appiah did with Akaminko. When it did not work, he went back for Vorsah. What is wrong with that? Derek Boateng and Agyemang Badu were already 'Black Stars' materials before Appiah became the coach. So what is wrong if these players used their 'voices' at a point in time? I'm surprised in talking an 'Ashanti-filled team' the writer never mentioned Christian Atsu. It is during Appiah's time that Atsu is gaining prominence; why? because Appiah is 'giving him selection'! Atsu obviously is not an Ashanti so one has to be suspicious of the motives behind this article-which appears to be 'making tribalism an issue in team formation'.
- Ayew. To the best that I can remember, the Black Stars handlers invited Dede 're-examination" by its doctors. This was not an unusual request. The player decided to stay put at his base and the coach moved on! If Appiah had 'pampered' Dede by giving him 'special concessions' the same Ghanaians would have complained about it! Appiah went for discipline: "If you're not coming then you're not part of the team, period!" That is a mark of a courageous coach. So the writer misses the point lambasting Appiah the way he has done in this article.

When coaches are hired, they also know that they can, within a twinkle of an eye, be fired also. I don't think if Appiah is fired he would be surprised. But it is not fair if people who know nothing about coaching concoct falsehood and demonise a coach in the manner done in this article.
I personally believe that Ghana lost due to 'fundamental structural issues'. If you look carefully, you would realise tht at any serious competition the Black Stars present many 'small-to-medium sized' players, most of whom, indeed, are skilful.
But, Modern football place premium on PHYSIQUE and TECHNICAL ABILITIES of players; SKILLS are an addition.
Teams in Europe field very powerful, well-built players. The Black Stars' attacking line lacks the 'PHYSIQUE' that intimidate defenders of opposing teams. Bance of the Burkinabes had a 'field day' not because he was particularly skilful (unlike Pitroipa) but because he was burly and powerful and thus almost uncontrollable. Ghana was lucky to have Vorsah and Boye as defenders. Indeed, Vorsah and Boye survived because they well-built players -tall and powerful.
Has somebody asked why unlike yester-years, Ghana always struggles to win and even loses to the teams they were hitherto easily beating? The reasons: Those teams have evolved well; Also they field tall, well-built players who are able to counter the 'skills' of Ghanaians.
So until Ghana makes the inclusion of tall, powerful players (the likes of Boye, Vorsah; Emmanuel Quarshie, Kwasi Owusu, Anas Seidu etc) we shall continue losing matches in painful ways and we shall soon fade from international recognition.
Our loss must be an eye-opener and a wake-up call to include powerful, tall, well-built players especially to the forward line as we prepare for the world cup!
This article is useless because it makes no suggestions about how to move forward. The writer only attacks a coach-

Papa Appiah, there shouldn't be any insults and tribalism in your article. All that Coach Akwasi Appiah needs is knowledge of modern technics. Football Coaching has evolved; the old methods are obsolete. You could see that in the European and South American league up to the national team levels.

They play total football---I mean scientific football, as opposed to physical and kind of play. They play constructively and that involves a lot of imagination by the players. It's a delight to watch esp. the Spanish league and the Brazilian league.

The Sports ministry and GFA must begin investing in our coaches. Our handlers must be given scholarships to further their knowledge in the game abroad. Our coaches could be attached to competent clubs. When they return, they'll combine their European experience with our brand of African football. That's the best way forward.

Coach Akwasi Appiah has done quite well. It's time to help him and Maxwell Konadu and other talents to take further courses in Europe and South America to acquire more knowledge and great new techniques. That's the solution, instead of creating hatred on-line. It just isn't the right way to tackle our problem.

We must accept the fact that we're no more in the olden days 1960s-1980s where Ghana could beat other countries at will, by wide 7-0, 11-1 margins. Things have changed and we must accept it and find the right solutions. For the WC-2014 in Brazil, I believe GFA must hire a top-class world Coach for the tournament, else we risk not qualifying or being totally disgraced at the games.

These days, every nation know how to play. It's a fact that we must all accept. Let the GFA brainstorm the way forward, sooner than later!

Your recent article has really exposed you. First, you are cowardly using a fake name. Secondly, you seem to have issues with Asantes and the appointment of Kwesi Appiah gave you the platform, like so many others before you, to vent your spleen.

It is very sad of you. Kwesi Appiah, from my knowledge, is from Wenchi (Brong Ahafo Region). So where lies your argument?

Secondly, if Kwesi hates the Ayews so much, how come he was the one who invited him to first play in Kumasi. Were not a lot of Asantes there at the time?

Let's go to your blatant lies. Goal keeper Fatau Dauda to me was the revelation of the tournament. Is he an Asante? Maybe Kwesi Appiah got rid of Kwarasey because in 1923, Kwesi's grand father was in a fist cuff fight with Kwarassey's great grand father.

What about Wakasso? Rabiu? Awal? Atsu? etc.

Of the 23 players, we have a representation of almost all the regions in Ghana based on competence, talent, and form. I do not think the likes of Afful, Paintsil, Boye, Vorsah, and Clottey are Asantes either.

Right after the first match against DR Congo, you have been insulting Kwesi for no apparent reason. You have the nerve to brand him a hypocrite, yet you are not even bold enough to reveal your true identity. It is the likes of you that prompted some of us to stop contributing to the Ghanaweb. He who demands equity must come with clean hands.

You claim the coach needs to be fired for poor performance. As far as I am concerned, we did quite well. The performance of the so called "Obroni" during the 2012 version was no better than the so called "unqualified" Kwesi Appiah. In both instances, we placed 4th out of 16.

And please stop those lies about Kwesi Appiah running to the torchline to try to wrest the captain's band from the maestro's arm. It is not true. The truth is that Kwesi Appiah was made to understand that since the tournament was "international" and Abedi Pele spoke French, Abedi should be the captain, though Kwesi Appiah was. Then Tony Baffour was appointed the deputy. That was why in the final against Ivory Coast, Tony captained the team when the maestro was suspended for the dubious card he got.

Where you need to pay close attention to are the players and their attitudes. After I heard they were going for shopping with their multi game winning bonuses, I knew we were doomed. It's all about money now to the players, and I do not blame them. If you hear the much older former Black Stars players crying and cursing the country for not doing anything for them, then as a sensible person, you need to think about fixing your financial future now.

So my faceless "brother or sister" who has decided to call yourself Papa Appiah leave the coach alone, after all we were much better than Cote d'Ivoire with all their golden age players and obroni coach. Talking about them, the typical African pull him down mentality compelled them to sack the local coach who never conceded a single goal in the 2012 tournament but lost on penalties to Zambia, yet the messiah obroni who got kicked out of the 2013 early has his contract extended. That is how we stupidly think most of the time. That is how we are always hospitable to those who are NOT us but "kill" ourselves.

He is so obsessed with his anti ashanti tendencies that he has lost any levelheadedness to be able to see that a huge chunk of the Blackstars - Anthony Anan, Christian Atsu, Rabiu Mohammed, Agyemang Badu, Asamoah Gyan, Wakaso Mubarak, Fatau Dauda, John Paintsil, Harrison Afful, John Boye,etc have no Ashanti linkage. Let me tell you all the footballers are Ghanaians and they played united as a team for Ghana. A year ago we had a foreign coach and we ended up being at the same level. So what's your problem? Ghana is one country and this comment clearly divide the unity. If you are really patriotic and had better ideas of how the team could be successful on the worse pitch in Nelspruit when they played with Burkina Faso why didn't you share this advice with the team before the game? Not all footballers were of Ashanti origin anyway, Asamoah Gyan for instance is not one and even if they all were they played as a Ghanaians and not as Ashantis. The title of your article is really insultingly divisive. Let this fact not escape from you if you really are anti Ashanti. The hardworking region has contributed and still contributing to lot to the resources of the nation of Ghana. I bet your education and scholarships for further studies emanated from nation resources from this region. Be mindful next time you speak, watch your background and don't feel too big in your shoes!
