Sadly, it is called setting your house on fire to spite the moon. Also it is a question of class and the awful structure at the Flagstaff House just does not have. I visit home once a year and get very embarrassed to see how foolish we are not to give our own architects the job. In fact in some countries it would have been put out there as a contest to find the most appropriate design. I am forgetting that this was done during the time of the criminal enterprise called NPP who really used the building of the project to rip the nation off.

Every progressive and enlightened Ghanaian knows that the the Flag Staff House is "the place to be" for our president. No gimmicks about that! So the writer shold do well to open his eyes widely, lest he's soon find himself racing up the hill, in his bid to try to catch up with the rest of Ghanaians. You don't want to be left behind in when you're still carrying the "colo" mentality with you. Please wake up before 6:00am strikes!

Akadu Mensama is forgetting that the odious trade in humans was possible only with the connivance of fellow Ghanaians and Africans. The very ground the slaves were belabored to walk over is stained with their precious blood and sweat, but that does not mean we must forever refuse to walk over the same ground. We remain in the dark ages by choice and no amount of blaming the wazungu will make any difference. To what do you attribute the state of our environment? The rubishing, the defeacation in public places, the destruction of our physical environment, the choking of our soil with plastic and the general lawlessness and lack of order in our countries, is that the European's fault? Grow up and get your head out of the sand.

Yes it is a fact, that majority of Ghanaians grew up in huts and villages, and for that very reason, mediocrity and even lesser development is never a bother to them. They do not have an eye for the finer things in life, and no matter how much wealth they may have accrued in modern times, only gold glitters in their eyes.

This building called the Flag Staff House is dead awful and an embarrassment to an entire nation, meanwhile, some of us were born with sophistication and will die in sophistication, even if all the villagers from outside the True South of Ghana become billionaires without sophistication.

I am so tired of all the illogical conclusions drawn about the castle, and I am so tired of the myopic views of some of our know-it-all compatriots. To think these imps have a choice not to even go to school and study the slave masters language, but their illiterate parents found it sound and appropriate to do so, only to make them sit at the table of Ghanaweb and have a discussion with those of us who opted to accept our fate and deal with the situation progressively and appropriately. How some of these ignorant "saved by colonialism" citizens (Akudu Mensema) such as Akadu pretend that they come from a very civilized culture wiped out by the British or Portuguese is beyond me. We had nothing and even several years after independence from colonial white people we still have nothing.

All these hypocrites make me sick to the stomach. I love my Ghanaian heritage, that is just the way life is but it stinks, fortunately for me, some from other parts of the country stink even worse. To think stinking and filthy Accra, is about the best thing that ever happened to Ghana, could one imagine what life could be like in all the secondary and tertiary capital cities of Ghana. Why should I accept their twisted logic about the Castle being a place of doom, when it has served us for over 50 years, and it has never been the cause of our failures and backwardness. Most citizens (indigenes) of Accra have no problem with the Castle, so I propose that all those who are not from Accra who have a problem with the Castle must leave town. The Osu Castle is not the only edifice or legacy the British left for us which epitomizes slavery. Most important, Africans were engaging in slavery long before the White man landed. And the Ashantis (Masters of slavery) were engaged in slavery far more than any other African, selling their subjects, sick and ugly non royals. You absurd and wicked hypocrites. Travel to Europe and America, and you will not find households that have housemaids, houseboys, garden boys, drivers and every other form of servitude such as we have in Ghana. We have taught all the expatriates how to oppress us, but then we will sooner or later turn around and blame them for our failures. Akadu, get off your stinking lazy black ass and start demolishing every and all structures or businesses erected by expatriates. We still live under COLONIALISM!!!

Aside from the densely busy location, the building is UGLY. I recently saw a mansion at Roman Ridge and immediately said to myself, "This is far more majestic, dignified, elaborate and nicer than the Flagstaff House".

Every nice thing people have tried to erect in Accra, our fellow citizens from those primitive villages have from to destroy. Build a roundabout, and they will with time transform it into a transportation transit quarter. Build a shopping mall, and they will slowly transform it into an open market place. What else do useless, ignorant, English educated fools like Akwadu want in life?

The simple solution to all our problems, as previewed by all these bush traditionalist would be to wipe out Accra, and start erecting huts and villages, and make sure everybody speaks Ga, do the same for well everywhere else is already a hut filled village so make sure nobody speaks English except whatever local language that region inherited. Until such time everybody needs to shut up about slavery and the legacies of colonialism.

Yes it may be iconic and a great symbol, but is it the most practical place in modern day? Surely the colonialists knew why they built these castles so close to the sea, but do we need our seat of government to be so situated? What extra value does that add?

It was built in 1661onwards by the Danes. In 1681-83 it fell into Portuguese hands and became known as Fort S. Francisco Xavier.
In 1693 it fell into the hands of Akwamu.
And sold to the British in 1850.
