First of all a beautifully written piece and very thought-provoking. My question is this As an African-American I have often questioned the responsability of the African people themselves, yes your article makes very valid points but,why is it the people seem to have such an air of permissiveness in them when it comes to their leaders? In country after Country one bad assed leader after another and one corrupt politician after another. Lord when do you get tired and say enough is enough already. It,s almost seems as if they are conditioned to it. We as Africans must develop attitudes of "Impeachment" jjust as is going on in Ghana today to whit "I entrusted this to an individual who just "doesn't cut the mustard" time for the eviction process to begin. This must be used as an effective tool without violence. Ghana has always led the way for Africans and,I'm not anti-Mahama or anybody else, but what is happening in Ghana right now may hold the key to the solution when you fail to lead with vision, resolve, and progressive it's time for somebody to get evicted Let the voice of the people be heard!

Look at the last 12 years. We have had both the NPP and the NDC in power and where is Ghana right now compared to 12 years ago. We are either marking time or walking backwards. Yet still if there is an fresh election held today, it will still be either the NPP or the NDC that will win.
Ghanaians just refuse to look at alternatives because they have been programmed to believe that apart from these OLD THIEVES parading around in NPP and NDC colours nobody else deserves a chance to show to show Ghana an alternative.
FUCK Ghanaians, they deserve what they choose.

For those African countries where democracy is flourishing yes the taxi driver is correct MOST ‘Africans are not intelligent’ including the farmer. If a country is not ruled by a dictator or an election is not rigged but the masses keep voting for bad leaders based on tribe and party colours then they are unintelligent. Only few vote on issues but the rest of us will vote for the same leaders and then a day or two after the voting we come complaining about bad leaders? Most Africans cut their noses to spite their faces and then blame others for that.
Example...someone offer to give you free SHS but you vote against that person and then a month later this person who voted against free SHS comes to me asking for help pay for his son's SHS fees for the term. Are you mad?

There is a significant amount of pompous critique from Ghanaians all over the globe. However, people cannot just come home and help. Coming home means having money and people who understand what you are trying to do. Sometimes people go home well intentioned but find that the local Ghanaian is looking to milk them dry. Thus, one has to be extremely careful about just going home. If you do not have money you can afford to lose and there is not a strong family support system, you are doomed. Ultimately, people get frustrated and just decide to live in the Western World and take vacation trips here and there.

In VR people vote 100% NDC and in Ashanti region, it is almost the same pattern. Politicians exploit the ignorance and dare I say the stupidity of the electorate. There are those who vote purely on tribal lines and there are parties that think that political leadership is the preserve of a political tribe or tribes. When will all parties meet (with the best brains in various fields of endeavour) to craft a 20 - 30 year strategic socio-economic plan for the country? Politicians can differ with the tactics to adopt to implement the strategy.

The development of Ghana would not advance anywhere unless the majority of us decide not to partake in this exploitation of Ghanaians by Ghanaians. We are our worse enemies. We also think "government " should take care of us and unfortunately the thieves who claim the offices of trust in our country take advantage of this national obsession.
Lets reduce the effectiveness and influence of government in our lifes and be self-reliant and the gates of development and advancement would be wide open to all of us.

Badu, your main point is about the need for leadership. This is an excellent point. But I personally do not share your pessimism and cynicism. I also reject wholly the notion that somehow we Africans are incapable of developing or making meaningful progress. You probably do not know the history of the continent and the rich vein of African quality development before the external incursions into our territory and our lands.
That said, we who are so privileged need to play a more proactive role in helping to develop the leadership required in the youth of today through proper education (including civic education) and to inject some much needed investment capital for scientific and technological research in our universities to support our development.

No more luxury hotels, gambling, strippers and bling for hip hop record label owner Tobechi Enyinna Onwuhara. The global manhunt for the 33-year-old convicted felon ended when he was caught in Sydney and sent back to the US to face fraud charges stemming from his alleged involvement in an elaborate scheme that defrauded the financial industry out of at least $44 million. Onwuhara was charged federally with conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and a federal warrant was issued for his arrest by the United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, on August 1, 2008. The FBI was offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction.
Onwuhara was a key member of a group of Nigerians who allegedly have been conducting fraudulent banking activities from Florida and Texas, since 2005. The group used online Internet databases to steal the victims' identities, and once acquired, they allegedly use the victims' information to gain access to the victims' Home Equity Line of Credit accounts and wire transfer the money to accounts mainly located overseas, although some were in the United States.

You are right ..sir
Nothing he says here is new. These are the sort of people that just sit back, talk and do nothing to help their country develop.
Are you a politician? Just asking.
The man is just an ordinary Ghanaian voicing his opinion and what exactly do you expect him to do?
Our leaders know the problems facing the nation yet, they ignore them when given the mandate to rule.
Man don't sit there on the roof top in the UK and just write. If you have ideas come home and help steer the affairs. Too many times we just sit outside and condemn, that is unfair. Return home, Mr UK.
Huh discuzzant, what is unfair about what the author of this article has written? Listen, even if the author of this article has any ideas, you lots will never give him/her the opportunity. Probably, you lots deserve what you ...

"But in all we Africans are all semi humans."
I disagree with you we are not sub humans, we are intelligent and as the author of this article asserts, some of us rather lack wisdom.

Sorry folks, I meant ...As long as NDC and NPP supporters..
Misdiagnosis!
The problem is NOT the politicians; the problem is the people.
The politicians are not from Mars, they are from amongst the people;
The politicians were born and bred amongst the people!
Barimah Badu, mmo ne ka! you have said it all. About 80% of Africans lack empathetic qualities and attributes. "They are hungry, my family and I guts are full; that is what is important! Let the have-nots go to hell.
"The problem is NOT the politicians; the problem is the people."
WHY? COME AGAIN BECAUSE YOU DON'T MAKE SENSE.
What is so difficult to understand what "the truth" is saying? Goooosh we have a lot of unintelligent people here.

Yes, positive thinking is the way forward, however, the onus is largely on the leadership to deliver. We definitely need an attitudinal change, if we indeed want to develop our country- Ghana.
All Ghanaians who have voted for past governments are all fools.
You are the ones who voted in fools.
FOOLS FOOLS FOOLS - you are all fools.
Too harsh; what exactly do you want the electorates, you preferred to call "fools" to do? Not to vote any government into power at all? Honestly, your thought process is too clumsy.
when can we look forward to the future with hope?
