Thank you all for reading and providing comments. I got the impression from some of the comments that the article was anti-Mahama and pro-NPP. I disagree with those who hold such views because it's neither of the two.

Contrary to some readers, I am of the view that, it is highly unlikely that the Supreme Court will grant the relief being sought by the petitioners. Notwithstanding this view, it absolutely necessary that the President is not seen to be doing anything that would compromise the independence of the Judiciary and violate the constitution. The government he leads must act in a way that strengthens democratic institutions.

Again, it is the President and his government that we must hold accountable to. For these and other reasons, whilst this petition is still pending at the Supreme, it is in the best interest of the President to refrain from making judgements on the 2012 Presidential Election, especially outside the Supreme Court. He should let his legal team do that in or outside court but preferably in court.

I am a critical friend of Ghana and not a fundamentalist.

Mahama's praise of the EC was bizarre and unfortunate. It was clearly and attempt to pressure the judiciary to see things his way. A president should never comment or attempt to prejudge a case pending before a Court.

When I saw the Cambr5idge address of the authior I expected a weighty well thougth out and reasoned article. But then I should know better. Not all of Cambridge is the revered University. The most striking point in the article is the support for the Supreme Court petition which is causing most patriotic Ghanaians the globe over embarassment and angst

If Mahama states that his election to the presidency is the fairest since 1992, he is then implying that he will not accept a Court's decision that goes against him. This will be contemptuous of the Court.

What a biased view point.No attempt to be fair.

My impression from the whole article is that you are bending backwards just to appease an opposition whose only intention for going to court is to make things difficult for the president and thereby making the country ungovernable.It saddens me that you have bought in to the npp's line of argument.This is not to imply that you have sacrificed objectivity and independent thinking, but I am afraid you may be sacrificing balance in your reasoning and it may be a weakness.

Right from the word go,the npp had used public platforms to denigrate both the EC the President and the ndc.They have conducted their petition on the court of public opinion and have shown no respect to the Supreme court.One would have thought that with the case in court the npp who claim they believe in the rule of law,will wait till the outcome of any court ruling and then react appropriately.It is therefore a bit rich for the npp to be saying that the president is compromising the judicial process by stating what is already public record.

The timing of the article gives the impression that you support the npp stance.I don't see any problem with that but not to compromise objectivity and balance wouldn't have been appropriate to mention the npp intransigence to the court and the judicial process as well.

Using democracy as a shield,This party has taken Ghanians on a wild goose chase under the guise of deepening Ghana’s democratic credentials, i don't think they need our moral support on this unwise journey.

My only contribution to the matters arising out of the state of the nation's address is the fact that the writer was not in the country and did not take part in the elections. He could not get any opportunity to visit any of the pooling centers to witness the orderliness, transparency fairness that characterized the voting on the 7/8 of December, 2012. The actions of the Npp stems from the simple fact that the leadership of the NPP thought that their message had caught on with the electorate and therefore anticipated that they will get the nod but to the contrary lost because of the tribal political campaign against the Gas, Ewes and the Northerners by activists of the party. Indeed, the President is justified in saying whatever he said about the EC. Those who are refusing to appreciate what took place during the elections that saw President Mahama as the winner will forever remain in that darkness as this writer.

The fact that the Election results is being disputed in the Supreme Court does not mean individual Ghanians cannot have their own opinions about the situation. NPP's opinion is that it was rigged and that Mahama is not the legitimate president. But the same SC judging the case sworn in Mahama as president and if Ghanians have faith in the SC, then they must respect that decision until it is proved otherwise. This attitude of "if it is not in my favour then it not right" must stop. The verdict could go any way, so we must respect the constitution instead of being ostriches to our own opinions. Long live Ghana!

At the time of global economic austerity, I believe the tax payers money could be used to install wind turbans to resolve energy crisis that had hit Ghana for over a decade rather than creating jobs for the boys. It is time for politicians to throw dust into the eyes of poor citizens in the country.
