Prof, I watched Joy FM's online coverage of President Mahama at his polling station and heard him make the suggestion that voters should be allowed to vote if the verification machines were not working. My reaction was that of shock for a number of reasons, which I have stated in one of my articles (the fact that he was the President of a society where people obey anything from above without questioning, that he was a candidate, and stands to benefit directly from such suggestion, etc). However, I find the analysis in your paragraph two very disingenuous. Are you suggesting that because the President made the suggestion, his suggestions or orders were complied with by the EC?

Did you read this from the EC's responses that you quoted from? "In any case, the EC made reference to a Commonwealth Observer Group report on the elections which recommended that, the Electoral Commission should review the exceptions to the current practice on the use of the biometric verification device to minimise the number of elderly people being refused to vote due to the difficulty in matching the fingerprints.”

I personally do not know whether people were allowed to vote without biometric verification since the machines have not been examined by an independent person. However, to suggest that it occurred because the President suggested it, is erroneous.

I also got confused with the 905 pinks sheets being "3.5% of the total number of pink sheets nationwide".

You are right that the President asked for steps to be taken to ensure that genuine voters were not disenfranchised by malfunctioning machines. I personally saw the Chief Justice try it 4 times on TV before her finger prints were verified by the machines. If we have to keep to this system of voting then we definitely have to get better machines. However, president Mahama was only adding his voice to complaints from the general public at that time. The constitution and case law frowns on disenfranchising Ghanaians in that manner.
Why do you want Afari Gyan to tell Ghanains about Agents who have or have not protested? Will you believe him? Why not rely on your own party information. Note article 49 of the constitution provides for this.
The question of 241,000 votes does not fly as Afari Gyan has never said that the foreign votes were 241,000. He said 241,000 people were later registered from foreign and other sources. Registered persons is not same as registered votes.
The less talk about the savelugu votes the better. We can attribute it to Afari Gyan but also dont forget what NPP can scheme from their evil machinations. Listen to them on radio, etc

The fact that the president asked that people should not be denied their voting rights does not mean that voting was conducted without biometric verification.

I really do not get your point. The petitioners have the burden of proof in this case. Mind you, the NDC and the president do not necessarily have to sing from the same hymn book. All they have to do is push the petitioners to prove their case.

Ghanaians owe Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo a great deal of thanks. This man has consistently shown to all the world that he is not desperate for power but interested in the development of Ghana. His policy of free education and industrialisation is what developed nations adopted.

Now some good for nothing beings-some from TOGO but domiciled in Ghana and call themselves Ghanaians are throwing insults at Akufo Addo. To such people is not their fault cos under no circumstance would they have had the audacity to insult Nana Addo. We often describe politics as “a dirty game" yes it is. As citizen we tend to forget that the love for our country (Ghana) has more merits than our individual party’s affiliations. The notion that Ghana is getting better is fictitious when you travel across the boundaries of Africa. A country where speed bumps and circles (round about) is rampant on our highways and to add insult in injury, significant number of our leaders who circumvent these ideas of road building were educated abroad and have been exposed to such developments. The answer is simple put either doesn’t care or are clueless on the daily death toll on our highways.

Now, back to my response, Africa politics are consumed with emotions and loyalties to our individual parties rather than using critical and analytical thinking in our judgments. I think Dr.Okoampa-Ahoofe had raised a pivotal issue, although the full truth is still unknown and of course we can’t rely solely on one person’s opinion. However if these are factually true that Dr. Afari Gyan reported 800 diplomat vote as 241,000 is a serious infraction and calls for action. How can he and does he explain such a huge discrepancy, beyond saying it was a mistake, honestly, it was not only a dame mistake it was a premeditated or planned mistake, and once again all the facts are not out yet therefore we need to be cautious in our judgment.

I personally don’t belong to any party in Ghana, because the ideological views of all the parties are similar “rebranding politics”, and I think it is time for us as Ghanaians to detach our selves and move from our living rooms to our balcony and look at things from the balcony rather than throwing insult at one another. This kind of mental thinking is what had led Africa in disarray and Ghana in particular.
