The problem is not drugs from Asia! It is the weakness of the system which allows unsrupulous importers from Africa to deliberately provide sub-standard specifications to their suppliers as a means of cutting costs to maximise their profits! African consumers, the pharmaceutical, nurses, and medical associations should also mobilise in support of relevant oversight government agencies.

Whoever imported the unwholesome products into the country should by now have been arrested, banned from doing business in the country and punitively fined. NO KIDS GLOVE. The strength of the law depends upon its timely application. No excuses should be made or tolerated and I hope our lawyers and judges apply the laws to the letter.
In the 60's 70's and 80's when one heard ICI, M&B or Sandoz it was sufficient to buy the medication without flinching.
The onus should be on the importers to bring in medicines which meet specifications. They cannot feign ignorance. After all they rake in tons of cedis. Just look at their life styles. I rest my case

What a shame that someone in Ghana will bring this Low-Life Chris Brown to perform on our national stage only to smoke wee. This guy is a women-beater and his songs stink as well.

Hyphenating India along with China in drug manufacturing will be wrong here. India itself is trying to deal with fake drugs manufactured in China and then labeled as Made in India thus reducing credibility of high quality Indian drugs. Their has been multiple occasions where authorities have caught this fraudulent activity by chinese companies. And yes, this is not possible until someone from within Ghana is hand in glove with these fraud chinese companies.

What is the use of the FDA, if fake drugs are getting past the system to reach the innocent sick consumer in Ghana who is not aware of the existence of this problem. The ordinary citizen on the street is made to believe that all known consumable drugs entering the country for use are checked by some sort of Quality Assuarance Standards and scrutinised before entering the healthcare system for public use. Ghana together with other African countries should not allow these suspected Asiatic nations to take advantage of and be used as dumpimg grounds for imperfect and deficient medications. We therefore call on all the various responsible agents to stop these fake drugs entering the Ghana Healthcare System.

I am no fan of countries like China and India 'flooding' our country especially when some of them violate our land with impunity as if it is Sierra Leone, Liberia or the DR Congo where they can get youth to dig any where looking for minerals. That said, it is worth reminding us all that two of the best drugs for malaria treatment come from China and India into Ghana. The "arthesunate family" which is an original Chinese product is now being explored by British pharmaceutical companies because they want to tap into the 'riches' thereof. Sure, our standards board and the Food and Drug Board must ensure that no fake drugs are sold on our markets, no matter where they come from.
Before you look as far as China and India, perhaps you would care to look closer to home - the last I checked, there were plenty of fake drugs (some containing starch) coming from Nigeria onto our Ghanaian markets.
