When I heard about the one-time premium, I was mad. I was mad because I felt those talking about it had no idea what health insurance was or they took all of us, me included, for fools. Current developments make me think the former is the right. Running an insurance scheme should not be a political appointment but one based on know-how.

There is no place on earth where a one time premium exist for any insurance.It is simply impossible for a scheme like this to work,but the men and women of NDC stood on platforms and podiums to tell Ghanaians that they will introduce that.Those who came with the news knew it was not true but they kept telling Ghanaians.How could they be that mean to come up with such deception.The NHIS is simply collapsing and the government must be held responsible.The whole scheme is being run by cronies and party individuals who have no understanding of the system.

The fact is the the first group of people who were and are against the National Health Insurance Scheme were and are health workers. When the scheme was introduced because of their opposition to it they did not care to know how it functions and up to date most of them are in the dark because the scheme have taken from the mouth of the crooks among them who were reaping from poor patents during the cash and carry days.
Even the majority of NPP members do not know what is meant by NHIS and that is the reason why they want it to collapse. They want it to collapse because they are not there to make money out of it. The politician in this country who to trust and who always makes contribution to how the scheme should be improved and not how to collapse it is Comrade Benard Monah, the General Secretary of Peoples Convention Party (PNC). It sounds like music when Comrade Benard Monah talks about national health insurance.
A one time payment means that National Health Insurance Scheme is transformed to a National Health Service as it is in the United Kingdom. Under that situation it is like a free medical care and the premium in in the form of tax on goods and services. There will still be some illness that can not be provided free of charge, thus a person suffering from it is made to pay some premium still, like it is for eye care in the United Kingdom and dental care in Japan. I wrote the other time that I am a Human Resource Manager who deals with the NHIS on daily basis and can talk about a lot of improvement in the scheme since its introduction.
