  You have truly called a 'spade a spade'. It seems to me from the utterances of some voices not just in the opposition NPP (and their surrogates especially in the PNC, NDP and PPP) that no matter what, they will not recognise the president as 'their president'. We have also seen in in many postings of commentators and contributors on ghanaweb and other media outlets. Kwame Nkrumah suffered, and Dr Limann suffered a similar fate! In the case of Nkrumah, there was a body of the UGCC who classed him as "not well educated" and even doubted his doctorate from Lincoln University. For those still in doubt, please visit the Kwame Nkrumah museum (thanks to JJ Rawlings) where a copy of his original thesis is housed. In any case, should it really matter whether someone has a doctorate to qualify to run the country?
  
  In the case of Limann, an even worse scenario - members of his own party mostly of "Akan" origin worked hard to undermine him and there was not only dissent, but gross disrespect. On a personal note, one of my own class mates, Kweku Yeboah (RIP) was in the habit of debating with me who was more important - "President Limann or Asantehene"?. Kweku had nothing good to say about the president and all I heard were insults because "northerners are not fit to rule Ghana".
  
  Here we go again. I have been pondering this same question - If the NPP leadership and their followers say they want to improve and develop Ghana, and believe they are the 'best qualified to bring us prosperity', is there anything wrong with someone from a different tribe and in this case a "northerner" to lead the country along the path of prosperity? It is a great pity and a shame that there are bigots whose mindset is fixed and their positions entrenched in the notion that they will not respect a "northerner" for a president or national leader.
  
  It is not only worrying and troubling, but an insult to our democracy, race and ethnic relations and respect for our fellow humans. How on earth do we expect minority ethnic groups and immigrants of "African extraction" to fight for "rights" in far flung places like Europe and America or Asia and the Far East for that matter, whilst trying to discriminate among their own kind and folks at home? The worst culprits are those who hide behind 'religious banners' and yet you can 'discern' from their utterances that they are being tribalistic.
  
  I have sat with, and heard too many of their kind across the spectrum, and often see them writing chaff on this, and other forums as well. Unless, and until we all recognise the strength we have collectively as one people and one nation (under God) of equal right, stature and value to move our country forward, we shall forever keep moving forwards and backwards.
  
  I applaud you for raising this issue and support you. You are absolutely right and it is only cowards and bigots who will refuse to see what you are saying and help us fight this 'disease' afflicting our country and its people. Bravo Kofi!

  You are missing the point. How did we get to where we are today ? Mahama has intentionally cheated Nana and so all these superiority issue for me is nonesense.

  That party whose members are trying hard in this 21st century to relegate some tribes to the backgound, thinking and speaking of them as inferior people are doing this at the peril of their political party. Once those "inferior people" get the message right they permanently will adopt the party that is broad minded and respects them and sees them as one of their own as their (home)party. That is when the doom is spelled for the party that considers other tribesmen as inferior. Let us wait patiently and see how this REALITY unfolds in the near future. Even God hates proud persons.

  Yes, and therein lies the problem because it could lead to a "one party state" or polarization and bitterness among certain sections. What I believe Kofi (and I) wishes to see is a more pluralistic approach where this "superiority complex" and tribalism do not rule our minds and dominate our politics.
