  Ghanaians' sense of development is warped. Ghana is a sad place, and those who live in it don't know better. Even if they did, it is the place of dearth of inventiveness!

What about Kuffuors frequent useless travels and hi snon-performance, etc etc. Unless we learn to take out the politics from the situation, our audience will be polarized in their acceptance of the TRUTH. INTERESTING ARTICLE THOUGH.

  The writer was right in referring to Busia because for most part of the eastern region, the only time they receive some development was during the Busia regime.
  
  A lot of Ghanaians think all older infrastructure was provided by Kwame Nkrumah. They do not know that Dr Nkrumah concentrated mostly in developing the urban areas. It was Dr Busia's regime, with Mr A A Munufie as Rural Affairs minister that a lot of the rural areas saw electricity, had tarred roads and pipe borne water. It is only extreme partisanship that has relegated Dr Busia to the background. What he achieved in 2-1/2 dwarfs what people are calling unprecedented these days.

  Mr ZoRRo has read this article with coloured eyes. This is a manifestation of the sorry state of Ghana today. Politics has become so cntral that people have refused to think analytically. ZoRRo or whoever s/he is has fallen victim here. The writer states a fact. It has nothing to do with the fact that Mr Rawlings went all round Ghana putting on lights, turning on water taps and commissioning roads but clearly all that was cosmetic. He had no credible plan. This does not also absolve the Kufour government from its failings. What is worthy of note here is that the writer has hit home the truth of the current Ghanain reality. Any thinking Ghanaians will notice this except ZoRRo of course!

I lost my daughter in that kind of circumstance because she couldnt receive help early although she is on the best of insurances the world could offer. But where were the emergency services? Unqualified house helps had to struggle in futility with and sadly we lost her. Ghana is indeed going down the drain and those in power act with a lot of impunity. They care less cos no one can hold them accountable. This is Ghana our motherland.

  B.K, your aticle is one the most relevant I have read on this site with regards to the situation going on in Ghana.
  The issue is how many Ghanaians including most so-called leaders in Ghana can understand what you have observed and feel about the concept of development.
  The Ghanaian including those at leasership positions' concept of development is to amass wealth by building a nice house, drive a flashy 4x4 car, own and brandish electronic accessories and eat at popular restaurants. This the concept of the average African and Ghanaian concept of development.
  However, the fail to reason that the filther sorroundings, the uncontrolled corruption which send people into stress due to unnecessary hassles in acquiring basic social services weigh heavily on development than those flashy stuffs they crave for.
  The point is about 99.9% of the leaders we have had except Nkrumah, Busia and Kuffour who realised the importance of these observations, do not have a clue of what development is about. The issue is excerbated by the compromising attitudes of the citizens who for lack of exposure do not demand service let alone quality of service but rather condone with the leaders lack of vision.
  Consider the case of Mahama's proposed "Hope City". What is he trying to achieve? When no electricit, water, sanitation and basic systems are not functioning?

  Brother Obeng, well done for such an insight of Ghana's despicable social political and economic under-developments. The true fact is, our once enviably proud and peaceful country, Ghana, is today made a safe havens for all manners of unscrupulous criminally immoral gangsters parading as politicians. Unfortunately, such are the "woyomenized" baboons we have in power and in a careless government disgustingly wrecking the nation with impunity.
  
  They started by faking a bloody revolution which violently took our noble country and people hostage by the gun for over 19 years and murdered eminent Ghanaians who stood against their criminal intents to back track the progress of our national developments, outrageously privatized state enterprises to be owned by their wives, poor campus rats turned politicians and other criminal associates.
  
  As you rightly mentioned here, one of the cancerous set backs, was the ability of the riffraff vulture criminals to divide the once powerfully united country on tribal lines and sank the political economic image of the whole nation beyond recovery.
  
  What Ghana need right now, is a proper spontaneous massive people's revolution to pave way to take control of the naturally given resources to make our country, the once mouth piece of political emancipation of Africa a better place for all.
  
  The Mahama led criminally tyrant P/NDC hoodlums has today make Ghana to look like a chaotic home without a father in control.
  
  Nothing works. Ghana we knew is gone.

  I enjoyed this article. The sad aspect of our life is that we are being ruled by people who were student leaders in the universities and found every reason to challenge the prevailing authorities with slogans like "scientific socialism". In an "Animal Farm" fashion they became even more corrupt once they tasted power.
  As a nation we do not seem to be able to plan 5 or 10 years ahead. We would not otherwise be faced with the near total collapse of our utilities.
  We do not perform regular mandatory maintenance of buildings, plant or equipment. When a disaster happens we blame it on the devil or God.
  The worst of all is we do not hold people responsible for their actions. There is also a culture of impunity. We accept mediocrity.
  We love sotentation and our leaders are only happy to accept unearned adulation.
  Not only our leader but our people must wake up and refuse to continue to tolerate incompetent leaders.

  Only hypocrites will asses the performance of a person or group of persons in this manner, particularly when they are behind the scenes with acts of sabotage.
  The president needs to be given some time to perform before we start the blame game. It is not surprising that this same elements blamed president Mills for doing nothing only for his deeds after death to be praised as unprecedented in our history.
  Let no one be deceived that the current power crisis in Ghana are due to human sabotage ranging from the disruption in gas supply on the high seas to blasting of major transformers.
  But to turn round and pretend that such magnitude of a problem must be solved in 3 months is most hypocritical. The power problem must be solved on a longterm basis but not by stop gap measures like the importation of toy gensetts as we have seen in the past.
  I will not comment or be bothered by the absolute lies that are being peddled in this article as truth. Afterall the truth cannot be hidden from Ghanaians.
