This article has prompted me to also speak out on what I think is wrong with our national psychic. My first point is that God has no national flag. My second point is that there is not even a single shred of evidence that development and progress in national life is achieved through prayers. Even Israel where we want to go and pray for miracles to resolve our national issues,they do things for themselves. They do not go and stand by the wall and pray all day without working and applying their minds diligently to resolving their national problems. Let anybody tell me of a single country where God has built a dam, a school or cultivated an acre of maize or rice. My conviction is that God has given us everything in abundance. On top of that he has given us the brains as well. If we do not use our hands and brains to make use of what God has given us, we all shall wallow in poverty and deprivation until we die. This is no rocket science but the plain truth. We cannot live in a country and mismanage ourselves and our affairs so badly and expect God to send angles from heaven to come and clean our gutters, fix our water treatment plants and provide electricity for us.
I am sorry to say that God does not have time for our national and individual nonsense. We as a nation have allowed ourselves to be tricked into believing that God should do everything for us including even wiping our bumps when visit the toilets. If God intended to wash our laundries for us would he have given us our figures or the brains to invent the washing machine? Please let us get out of this nonsense and take responsibility for our development instead of sitting on our assess and mismanaging everything of ours and still expecting God to feed us. It does not happen anywhere and it will never happen anywhere. There is no country that has been built on prayers in this modern era. For those of my fellow citizens who were very kind to slam at me for being balanced in my thinking, I want to say Ayeekoo. May you be strengthened. It is often the case, and very surely in this case too, that most of the comments made, were made by people who have chosen to read one part of the article and NOT the other. It’s a shame most of you think I am solely for the Israeli trip without any recourse to speaking what the realities are. Right there in the middle of my article, it is stated and I requote:
“Having said all these, I’d like to make the president aware that as a country, God has blessed us beyond imagination. Our problem, I don’t believe has anything to do with our our prayers to God or NOT. It has to do with US as a people. It has to do with our GREED and our INEFFICIENCIES. The earlier we recognize that, the better for us all. We are now behaving like Moses who had “the rod of God” in his hands and getting to the red sea, is still turning to God and asking God, what should I do?”
But of course such is the problem we have in Ghana – People intentionally turning a blind eye to the things that are there but which they don’t want to see OR seeing the things that are not there but which they want to see. Well, here is the truth – selective enlightenment is NOT enlightenment, it is ignorance. Finding balance – that is enlightenment.
And may I quite politely add, that in our collective efforts to move Ghana forward insults do not help the process, neither do such aggressive reprieve – IF you had something better to say to Ghanaians, you should have written an article. Or if I did but didn’t get it right, correct me in a manner that will attract other civil readers to want to learn from you instead of me – at least somebody will be learning.
But I guess that has always been our problem in Ghana. Everybody talks, nobody makes impact……
