This is what happens when a student association from the North, asks the president to appoint a VC from the North. They forget that the school is supposed to be a national institution and not for a particular people. Appointing effective leaders must be based on merit and not on ethnicity. This is a way to built lasting institutions.

The same nonsense prevail in Ghana.
The bigots on the web will call ewes cat eaters,the Ashantis Grass cutter feces eaters,Akyems and the Northerners dog eaters.
They insult people for the foods they eat forgetting that one man's meat is another man's poison.

If the writer is a real journalist, he will be bold enough to put real names and identities to the Xs, Ys and Zs.
There's a problem at UDS. Before any one can tackle them, real information must be given.

The XYZ stand for Dagati,Dagomba and Frafra- Please arrange it yourself to see which one fits the other as described above. What the writer wanted to point out is a percived in some circles and to some extent true.

If the Asantes are really tribalistic as you have stated,we wouldn't have entertain all tribes to live peacefully in the region. For Christ sake, please change your attitude and move Ghana forward.

You have taken up an important topic. The UDS is indeed a mess of a university and what is interesting is that most of the administrators are northerners, who are running the university in a very inept manner. When Prof Yakubu formerly of UCC was appointed as VC, many were glad hoping that he was going to move the UDS forward. However, he has thus far offered a vision-less direction for this great institution. The registrar's office is a mess of a place. I recently visited there and saw many ladies sitting here and there. Send a simple letter to the administration and follow up the next day. The file will be missing; nobody is on top of things in what is a well furnished office; In UDS vehicles are more than the lecturers; Apply to teach there, your application will be missing in a minute. Go to the other campuses beside Tamale students have no places to sit to learn or meet with their lecturers but the development officer Ambrose has been there over the years ensuring the building of shoddy structures so he can rehabilitate them for more money. Just putting simple stones on the untarred roads to prevent muds does not ring a bell in the administrators of this unversity. When former Joynews commentator once said that the UDS was not a university, many blamed him for that but he may be right. Graduate programs have begun to proliferate but the qualified people to handle such courses leave much to be desired. The students are being sacrified for the ineptitude of the university management.

This is emphatically true. I am currently a level 200 student at the Wa campus of UDS and I would like to emphasize on an instance that happened recently: A student who was to be a graduate by now, has to start all over again with the just newly admitted(2013-2014) students in level 100 just because of the ineptitude or better say, the square pegs found in round holes of the administration system. A student writes a letter and submit and the next day the letter is nowhere to be found. To me, I believe every coin has two sides and so talking about the tribalism or nepotism is out of my comment but at least even if you are going to recruit and give chances to your own people, make sure they are qualified for that position. Then all will be well. Thank you!
