We cannot, as a people, fail to recognize the achievement and work of our fellow citizens and so we commend and congratulate Ambassador Ken Kanda for making Ghana proud at the UN. How this is going to improve the work ethics of Ambassador Ken Kanda's embassy staff appears to be a fleeting illusion.
Perception they say is often reality. Our perception of the do-nothing ghanaian embassy staff in all of our diplomatic missions, especially in America, will only change if they finally show up , sit on their behind and get to work and justify the taxpayers' huge investment in their education and salaries. The perception is that these phantom workers are a drain and waste of the taxpayers money and the firing of the workers and nailing the coffin of an office which remains closed 99.9 per cent of the time would leave some "meat" on our "dry bone " economy.
The basic needs of ghanaians are multiplying and worsening each passing day and it's no exaggeration to say that this horrific state of affairs is driving millions to accept the undignified living under the poverty line as their permanent abode.
We have a lot of well qualified ghanaians , home and abroad, in all fields of human endeavor but for inexplicable reasons we've failed to harness their knowledge and expertise for the benefit of the larger society. Why must we waste precious time and scarce financial resources in putting up public shools and institutions if they benefit just a few among us? What's the use of knowledge, academic pursuit, academic credentials, academic excellence if they do not serve the needs of the general population and make life better for everyone?
These are not normal times by any stretch of the imagination so why are we under-utilizing our talent pool? Nepotism, cronyism, greed and selfishness, wicked hearts and evil mindedness, deliberately putting square pegs in round holes, etc, etc ? I don't know the answers. What I know for certain is that we're wallowing in poverty, sinking deeper into oblivion everyday and still groping in darkness when collectively we abound in knwledge(light).
We, the people, need Ken Kanda to roll up his sleeves, get into the gutter and help better the lives of ghanaians by staying on the job and attending to the mounting needs of ghanaians.

I think ambassador Kanda and his team should be commended for this advocacy work at the UN. A very good piece by this author.
