Your assessment is well thought out and well written. (Unlike many pieces on this site). What caught my attention is Kwadwo Asamoah. I truly believe that coach Appiah is correct. Kwadwo Asamoah will be better as a left back. When K. Asamoah is put in as attacking midfielder I always get the sense that he is trying too hard. He seems to be more confident coming up from the back.

I think he should be the first person to be put on the bench.
But we seem to be pampering him. He was even given the captains band. Someone who can not manage a simply 10 shirt. Kissi boateng= Liberty. Asamoah Gyan=Liberty. Sulley Muntari= Liberty. Kwadwo Asamoah=Liberty. And these are the guys the FA is using now.And they are all huge libilities
Is there a link between these guys and the anti-Ayew movement?
Great article by Chris but he sounded too cautious for my liking. Anyway congrats for producing this in less than 24 hours

everybody all of a sudden thinks we are good enuff and ready to go,just because we've beatten sudan 4-0,im not going to 4get the fact that this man is not good enuff to manage the national team, just bring in desailly.this akwesi appiah guy is a fool and a dummy,.the guy is simply not good enuff, not fit 4 a team like blackstars.
im very happy we won cos i want us to qualify 4 world cup badly but i dnt think its to do with him[akwesi appiah].why does he keep talkin about tactics, wot tactics does he know,i dnt see any tactics apart from the players playin their own ghana football.we see managers like jose make a substitution and even an ordinary man on the street can see why,the team is not strong enuff, they not playin to their potential, how we know they can play,.so stop shoutin cos WE beat sudan 4-0,we need to be compairing ourselves to teams like spain, england, france, germany, brazil etc, this are the teams we can be as good as,so beatin sudan 4-0 only means we still got a chance to qualify, doesnt mean we should keep this snake, just fire the idiot and bring s.one wiv some sort of power and strengh bhind him, just bring desailly NOW!!!

I was right here, where u seeing me now,i guess u werent here then osei cos if u were here,u would ave seen me shouting on top of my voice that ghana football doesnt need a local coach just yet.Until all those criminals at the FA are rid of.
Those criminals working at the FA and at the same time managing players are sacked, untill our local coaches realise that its better to be remembered as a great coach.Only one to have won or done smthg special in the history of ghana football, something nobody else is done.
then they would realise they have to maintain no bribery,no corruption policy in thier job to achieve the highest. But when your employer is the one giving you the bribe, its difficult to refuse cos your job is on the line.Thats why they dont want a foreign coach.have you asked yourselves why all of a sudden we got all this new players coming in and the old been sacked or not called, with the coach citing football reasons,THE CHEEK OF IT!wot football reasons is it that no one seems to understand.Jose Mourinho is a controversial coach but even those who dont agree with him for something he says, can always see why he say it. Rather than sackin a player, cant you fine him.[THEY NEED THE SPACE FOR NEW THE NEW PLAYERS]why a goal keeper who graduated into the number one position and doin really well is all of a sudden brought to the bench.
its ok when you playin sudan, dont get me wrong this players are good, cos we got good players in Ghana but you cant buy experience in the world cup.
THAT IS WHY WE NEED ONLY THE BEST OF THE BEST OF THE BEST.

I think my Chris is back like I used to know of him. I agree with your assessment very much and I think you did great. However, regarding the issue on captaincy, can you write something about it to bring some sort of awareness to all? My point is, a team captain is not necessarily supposed to be the most senior player or it's not supposed to be based on who first joined the team. All these hullaballoo's are hppening bços of our mediocre understanding to who's supposed to be chosen our team captain. I remember when Gyan was to be appointed the captain, I for one suggested Dede Ayew bços he's got that quality of a captain. During the nations cup, I didn't see nothing captainly about Gyan except for tossing coins and shaking hands with dignitaries. To me Paintsil played that captainship role better. We Ghanaians as a nation need to move from such thinking and if that'll happen, it'll take people like you to help drum it to the hearing of all. The reason Muntari's wearing of the band yesterday is tantamount to trouble that'll brew in the future of the B/Stars pot is bços we lack understanding. The GFA has to change that rule or concept. They should rather go for who possesses that captainship quality than who came first. John Mensah wasn't qualified in his era too. In yesterday's squad, goalkeeper Dauda looked more like a captain to me. In Ghana, that band has been worn by too wrong a people since Stephen Appiah's departure. What do you think Chris?

A player misses a penalty, he is chastized and he 'chickens out' by requesting a 'temporary stay off' but is rewarded the captaincy...what kind of stupidity is this? How can such a mentally 'fragile' person be awarded a leadership position? A player who says my mother's death wish is that I no longer take penalty kicks for Ghana...tweaaa. Even in the US I see players whose parents or brothers/sisters die and within 2-3 hours gets on the pitch, court etc. because it would be the deceased's wish that he/she plays and excel to honor their names and show fortitude.

Well written; from the punching bag, knocking them cold! We won yes but we were lucky especially in the second half. The Sudanese didn't take their chances else they should have redeemed the 2 first half goals. I still believe in building the stamina of the boys and he Kwasi Appiah is a product of some of those drills. And what is it? 'Use the same set of Black Stars players to face say Wa All Stars for the first half and Heart of Lions for the second half. They would be forced to play above themselves in order to avoid defeat and disgrace.
Again use Kwadwo Asamoah in the centre there to play as the 'Pirlo' of the team. He can do it. He should have even learned some of Pirlo's tactics by now as they play together.
Where the one touch football is not working, then the coach should also introduce variation. They should learn how to play and receive long balls! No over indulgence; release balls timely.
Prince Boateng and Dede must come back. Ballotelli may be a monster but his coaches know how to manage him. And just look at how he is performing. No player cannot be managed by a good manager. So the coach must get them back for the qualification. The battle has just started. It is not over till it's over.

On the point of exhaustion, it is very challenging if your switch and play in different climatic conditions. It will take its toll on the boys, hence the importance of long rest and getting hydrated cannot be overemphasized. The physical team must look deep into it.

Give him the support he needs, let us find ways to work together by forgiving each other and put the interest of the nation ahead of our own personal agenda. The writer has been very objective and I hope the technical team and the GFA will not treat this with a simple wave of the hand.
The issue with camp discipline must be taken seriously. The players must retire early to bed and stay focused on the impending assignment. In the 1990s I happened to visit with a friend at the hotel he was lodging. It happened to be the same hotel the Black Stars were also lodging at the time. What I witnessed was very unprofessional and very disturbing to me, to say the least. Many of the players appeared to have had some dislike for their dinner of rice and stew, ghana style, and some salad . I stayed till late with my friend, leaving after 11pm.As I drove away from the hotel I saw the players walking back from wherever they went in different groups of twos and threes with their kenkey and fish and other stuff.
I think the players have been given in most cases a blank eheque when it comes to camping regulations. Who knows what activities they engaged in whilst on the blind side of the authorities. It could be anything.I'm not ruling out the possibility of some indulgence in sex, alcohol and drugs which must all be prohibited during camping. Besides whatever food they eat for dinner must be prepared under very hygienic conditions and it must be a balanced diet.
I'd like to suggest that for dinner a buffet would be more appropriate as it would give the players choices over what they may want to eat. I hope they have a dietician among the team officials.

Respectfully your comment is disappointing and uneducated. The players were lodging in a 'public' hotel so are you saying he couldn't have a friend staying there at the time of the BS lodging? What kind of thinking is that? In the US the basketball players for eg. lodge in 'public hotels' and are assigned specific floors. The protocol you will have to go through at the lobby before you get to see a player is even stricter than going to see the late Osama Bin Laden in the Tora Bora mountains. Even if he was guilty like you alledge why should it be so? Why should there be such laxity that anyone including unaccredited journalists can have unlimited access to the players? My brother speak to the substantive issues and stop beating about the bush.

There should be no reason why they stay up passed 9.Pm No wonder some were running out of steam. Unless it is an emergency, no one should have access to them before the match period. GA needs to be decisive or get fired. Prompt and timely decisions make the Black Stars stronger. It is good to share the playing time among the players. It creates the desire to play better. Let us have a second black star team to be called the REPUBLICANS. . GFA must provide all resources needed with a different coach . For a national assignment only the best team should represent Ghana. The competition will bring the best out of both coaches and the players. They should be considered equal until they play each other and the winning team represents Ghana.

Undeniably, he had assisted four expatriate coaches, but has he been tested and proven at any club or junior national teams? Has ever selected and groomed any talent in the country as Sellas Tettey, Sam Ardey, Sam Duodo have done? (I hope I've crucified their names) No. Each time, He's asked to take the boys someone else had groomed or assembled. Certainly, I've not been impressed by his performance as a coach. Mind you Sudan did not bring her to of line players to play Ghana so this should not go into our head that Ghana/ Appiah beat Sudan by 4 goals. The earlier we amends the better it will be for us all.

My problem with Appiah is that, he deeply lacks the psychology of coaching. The success in sporting competition depends largely on the knowledge of the particular sport his/she coaches. The second part is the human psychology. Every coach should know that competition in sport is 50% mental and 50% physical. A good coach work hard for perfection in what sport he coaches. The worse mistake a coach can make is when he allows an athlete to feel that the coach does not know the game he/she coaches.
Coach Appiah don,t assume that these players know it all simply because they play in big leagues in foreign countries. When you call them to camp, they are under your directions to play and win games.

Somebody even went to the extent of saying we good players.Let me tell you.Ghana currently have no quality player.

I dont agree with you that muntari and asamoah cannot play together, infact the two can play in three different positions ie centr of midfield, left of midfield and supporting striker roles, It will be better if they play more oftentogether so that they can understand each other and play like barca. midfield on the captainship leave the two alone they have come to regard the captain-ship as a responsibility rather that a post and hence they will decide among themselves with the coach just giving advice. The professionals are at a disadvantage when they come to play in africa-ghana due to the heat they experience and therefore are exhausted. This the coach did very well unlike the cup of nations and did replace Asamoah and Muntari. the physical trainer should work on them whenver they report for camp and the coach should watch and change anyone who looses steam during the match.

OYIWA!
For instance, what stops the GFA from ensuring that the players move to and stay in their rooms at a set time? Instead the players entertain visitors well beyond 11pm. Frankly, whoever is responsible for camp discipline should be up and doing. The top coach I spoke to described the atmosphere at the hotel as akin to a market place. Indeed, I went there myself to see a friend after Saturday’s evening training session and what I saw was simply put, an eyesore. PPL WHO SUPPORT NYANTAKYI N AA ARE IDIOTS. DONT EVEN USE THIS 4 NIL VS SUDAN AS AN EXCUSE. IF THIS IS HAPPENING HERE, THEN WAT DO U THINK HAPPND IN SAFRICA. N WAT DO U THINK WILL HAPPEN IN BRASIL? IF GH SHOULD EVEN QUALIFY? Y3NKO NKOAA.......
Your assessment is well thought out and well written. (Unlike many pieces on this site). What caught my attention is Kwadwo Asamoah. I truly believe that coach Appiah is correct. Kwadwo Asamoah will be better as a left ba ...

I beg to disagree with you on using Kwadwo Asamoah as a left back. If anything he should be used as a defensive midfielder, where he can have the freedom to run up occasionally.
K. Asamoah simply lacks confidence when playing for the Stars' and needs to be BENCHED! His best year on the international scene was CAN 2010. He's been ordinary since!.
I think my Chris is back like I used to know of him. I agree with your assessment very much and I think you did great. However, regarding the issue on captaincy, can you write something about it to bring some sort of awarenes ...
