First ,the route to becoming a barrister in England and Wales is through the BVC now BPTC that is if you have the LLB law degree.Otherwise you must have to do the CPE which gives you the exemption to do the Bar.On the other hand,what Akuffo claimed to have done is the LPC for Solicitors.The process is also LLB or the CPE for access to the practice the course.Most importantly to qualify as a lawyer and practice,you need to do your pupillage for a barrister or a training contract for a solicitor to enable you to practice in England and Wales.If you should decide not to do the training contract or the pupillage because you want to practice in another jurisdiction,then you must meet the requirement of that jurisdiction as well.

According to your write up Akufo Addo qualified via the solicitors route and not the barristers route as is often claimed.If the sequence to his qualification is anything to go by then,he did not qualify to practice in England.So the question is did he meet the requirement to qualify as a lawyer in Ghana? and through what process.Perhaps the courts will help to unravel these jigsaws.

The CPE is only for non law degree holders like Akufo Addo.Those without law degrees have to do the exemption certificate to qualify them to do either the Bar or the Solicitors course because the two routes are different and managed by different bodies.
