  Great article Michael! Unfortunately, in Ghana, both party members are of the same character. Their shambolic display of greed, self centered, recklessness, corruption, ineptness, arrogance, unremorseful in their actions is plunging this nation into the abyss.

  Yes each country is different but the lesson is the same. Both of those countries listed above knows the meaning of self sacrificing when the going gets tough. You don't appoint a whole house of ministers with their deputies ...

  Yes each country is different but the lesson is the same. Both of those countries listed above knows the meaning of self sacrificing when the going gets tough. You don't appoint a whole house of ministers with their deputies and then giving them bonuses when you can't afford to pay striking workers. What Banda did is called budgeting. She felt the pain and cries of her people & knows her cabinets are overpaid & therefore, cut each of their salaries including her own. That's what a true leader does. After all, leaders are elected to serve the people, not to be served.

  Your comments and general outlook on life are the reasons for this beautiful piece by Michael Dale-Asiedu.There are too many of you in Ghana who think cause and effect have nothing to do with each other.Virtue, wisdom, industry, corruption, laziness, etc have no boundaries.
  "Law, not confusion, is the dominating principle in the universe; justice,not injustice, is the soul and substance of life; and righteousness, not corruption, is the moulding and moving force in the spiritual government of the world.This being so, man has but to right himself to find that the universe is right; and during the process of putting himself right, he will find that as he alters his thoughts towards things and other people, things and other people will alter towards him..................
  Men imagine that thought can be kept secret, but it cannot;it rapidly crystallizes into habit, and habit solidifies into circumstance. Bestial thoughts crystallize into habits of drunkenness and sensuality, which solidify into circumstances of destitution and disease : thoughts of fear,doubt, and indecision crystallize into weak, unmanly, and irresolute habits, which solidify into circumstances of failure, indigence,and slavish dependence :selfish thoughts of all kinds crystallize into habits of self-seeking, which solidify into circumstances more or less distressing. On the other hand,thoughts of courage,self reliance, and decision crystallize into manly habits, which solidify into circumstances of success, plenty, and freedom : energetic thoughts crystallize into habits of cleanliness and industry, which solidify into circumstances of pleasantness.
  A particular train of thought persisted in, be it good or bad, cannot fail to produce its results on the character and circumstances. A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly,yet surely, shape his circumstances.

  This is not rocket science.It's just common sense which does not vary from country to country, situation to situation or individual to individual.The results will always depend on the effort put into it.This isn't just rhetoric. It's result oriented. You can't expect to reap success and prosperity when you sow seeds of corruption, greed and selfishness,profligacy,laziness and ineptitude, etc.

  We need bold, selfless, steadfast, honest and dedicated leadership which puts the nation before self. Leadership by example is what we need. Absolutely spot on.

  Ghana is doomed if we continue to have greedy bastards to govern us. While other countries are learning ways to be content, Ghana's government are rather enriching themselves. Such heartless people.

  The educational system that suppose to usher us into the future with the right humanity,love and empathy for one another, has been curtailed in1966 and those who replaced it had nothing in its place.And since then we've been growing up like wild flowers with no direction.
  The country is a mess with standards of everything so low.
  A whole month goes by with nothing encouraging popping out as a news headline.
