  Many of us at Adansi can circle or square the story for you Prof. I followed on the leads of my Asona father to locate the house and residence of his maternal aunt called Nana Minsin (Ninsin?) at Kyebi in 1981. She was a very old but amazingly black beauty who wore a lot of beads, one of which she pointed out to me symbolized my name - ahwenie bota.
  
  You are indeed a cousin.The story you have narrated here resonates at our end in Adansi. Former head of state FWK Akufo is of the kind. He was an extended relative from my mother side, thus he was an Adansi under the skin even though he was known as an Akuapem. I have a picture of his father, Kwasi Akufo and my grandmother together as kids together, long before he migrated to Akuapem and became a very rich and successful cocoa farmer and settled there. Actually on hearing of our side General Akufo extended an invitation to me to come and visit after I was done with my GCE A Level, but you know what, the 1979 coup happened.
  
  Adansi Abadwum, outside Akrokyere is where it all began. That is where the Oyoko family that became the head of the Golden stool began, circumferenced Akyem, through Asiakwa to Kwaman or present day Kumasi where they founded the Ashanti kingdom. You are family, Kwame.

  According to innitial reports, the "booty" was traced to a local blacksmith who had already melted the "booty" sold to him by the peruvians thieves. Apparently, the "booty" was about 44kg in weight.

  Well, Okoampa Ahoofe, thanks for your titillating account of your family history. Since my own father is of the Asona Abusua, I may share some links with you through my father’s ‘Ntoro’; though I am thoroughly of the Agona Abusua (Dankyira Abankieso ‘fentemfrem omene osono”!!).
  
  As you may know, three main Asona family members emigrated from Adanse. These Asona family branches settled at Offinso and Edweso in Asante. The other branch settled at Kyebi, where one of the grandchildren, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin rules as the present Omanhene of Akyem Abuakwa. Emigrants tend to scatter and it stands to reason that your ancestors may have ended up at Dwaben and then to Amuan Praso, which land, as I recall belongs to the Dwaben Stool. How?
  
  Well, when Osei Tutu became Asantehene one of the first military campaigns he carried out was against the Chief of Hwereso called Owusu Papakesie. Hwereso is a few miles from Edweso. Osei Tutu was berated by his sub-chiefs especially the Konti and Akwamu military set up for not informing them of the war. From that war, about the 1695, no Asantehene could engage in any military campaign without the knowledge and consent of his lieutenants.This law became the Asante War Powers Act. Comparatively, the USA Congress passed a War Powers Resolution in 1973 to check the US president from declaring war without the consent of Congress!
  
  You may also note that the land from Hwereso (including Dampong; Asuboa; Agogo; Konongo; Duampompo; Dwaaso; Atwedie; Dwansa; Patriensa; Nobewam; Obogu; Bompata; Kurofa; Asankare; and Amuana Praso, etc.) with the great Pra River as boundary, belonged to Ofosuhene Apenten and his Akyem Kingdom. Ofosuhene Apenten was defeated by Asante and he lost his capital of Dampon (near Asankare) and his entire territory which was incorporated into Asante, and became known as Asante-Akyem! The Asantehene and Dwabenhene shared the spoils of war; and the towns located thereof.
  
  In about 1717, Ofosuhene Apenteng moved fially to the present day Oda on land given to him by Akyem Abuakwahene. Ofosuhene Apenten’s land became known as Akyem Kotoku. In about 1717 Nana Apenten prevailed upon the Abuakwahene (sometimes referred to as Okyenhene by some people) to join him in a war against Asante to retrieve his lost territory, with a promise of sharing in spoils. It was in that campaign that it is claimed Asantehene Osei Tutu may have drowned in the River Pra.
  
  It was a sad moment so that to this day no Asante admits to that claim. “Me koo bi nso m’ante ne nyinaa”; yea I went to the war front; but I was not privy to all that went on during the war! That became the excuse for not admitting to the claim. For, one could lose his head and his entire familys’ for mouthing the sacrilegious act of the death of a King! (Asante defeated the Akyems in 1740-41 under Okatakyie Opoku Ware I)
  
  Back to Amuana Praso (and that is the proper spelling of the town’s name), as I said it probably belongs to the Dwabenhene, and therefore quite understandable that some of your ancestors must have ended up in that town. Amuan Praso is know for its beautiful women with shapely form and beautiful eyes. Though, I was not much to it, but I accompanied my grandmother (at Atwedie) whenever the Asante Akyem Presbyterian annual “Asempatre” Church Fellowship) and Womens Fellowship were held at Amuan Praso. There have been several renderings as to why and how the town has the prefix “Amuana”, but I will not touch that in a public forum of unknown participants!! I still know people from Amuan Praso living at Atwedie that I consider family!
