If you paid for a price of a goat, you will get a goat and not a cow. These Members of Parliament are there because they were voted there by some people. You get what you pay for and in as much as we have to be upset with the MP'S, the voters should be blamed too because they took bribes like twenty Ghana Cedis, wax of clothes, meat, sugar, rice, salt, you name it and they voted these people who have to recoup their money used to buy the votes.
In the end who gets hurt, the same people who sold their conscience for porridge. Now they need help after the floodings in the North and Volta region but the government cannot help them because they have been paid already.
You are right, if we have to subject prospective MP'S to a Psychiatry test, then Ghanaian voters must also get clearance of having common sense to vote so that we can weed the fools out.

It shouldn't be only politicians,to be frank every Ghanaian. Why should somebody of sound mind walk to his/her MP's house for school/hospital fees? We're all mentally sick, the politicians are no exception.

If the Ghanaian voter is of sound mind, they will not vote for these People to be their MP's. What do the voters expect when they sell their votes to people to rule them without knowing their character?

Your suggestion is a can of worms.Democracy is what it is with its imperfections.Should we be suggesting that some tribes are not up to par, hence they can't vote?

Are you saying there are some tribes in Ghana who are too stupid most of them will not meet the IQ quotient, since the Author did not mention any tribe in his analysis?

My fellow, OKATAKYIE SARPONG, this is an interesting proposition. Sometimes I do wonder if our Ghanaian Politicians/MPs think the title, 'Honourable' makes them some kind of Super Human Beings. Who can blame them when they've very loyal uneducated and ignorant masses voting for them irrespective of the obvious.
In democracy, there is the sound argument that 'Free and Fair' Elections are effective way for changing corrupt and inept politicians and Governments. However, this is based on the common assumption that voters are capable of understanding and evaluating policies and activities of both the Government and Opposition parties. Education and informed decisions are very crucial in making rational electoral choices. There's the correlation between education levels and the quality of Democracy/Governance.
Sadly, in Ghana, the average level of education[both, Intellectual and Civic] is limited. The enormous masses of uneducated and misinformed voters are easily exploited by politicians seeking power. Other contributory variables such as ethnic/regional sentiments pretty much affect even the sophisticated intellectuals in politics.
Ghanaian voters are their own worst enemies when they turn themselves into 'campaign benefit' scroungers. All is forgiven and forgotten when these incompetent and corrupt politicians come knocking with 'campaign goodies and freebies'. We gladly receive these 'bribes' and slavishly campaign and vote for them. Ghanaian voter are just like condoms. Only used and discarded. And we never learn.
