  A Journalist covered a story about an attack on a woman by an escapee from a mental asylum. He returned with the story and a headline of "Woman raped, mental patient escapes".
  The editor told him the headline needed a little punch to grab the reader's attention. After a while he came back with "Fiend Fucks and Flees".
  
  The editor told him it was a family paper and they couldn't use a headline like that, go back and try again. Much later he came back with "Nut screws and bolts

  Ziem, for a journalist, your piece was unnecessarily long and tedious.....whatever happened to brevity and clarity, two cornerstones of solid journalism? I taught news writing and reporting years ago, and if you were my student, I would have instantly flagged you for driving readers away with articles that could be condensed into a mere five paragraphs..economize your words, young man, and get to the point quickly. What is all this nonsense about your friends teasing you for "looking good" and hobnobbing with "bigmen?" Readers want to know why journalists are poorly compensated. They want the facts fast without any deviation. Give them basic facts complemented with plenty of quotations from local reporters.........and of course, get opinions from owners of media outlets.
  You got a few quotes from some reporters but inexplicably left out owners....readers want to know where omedia owners stand on this all-important issue...
