The practice of killing children believed to possess spirits, has now been formerly abolished in seven communities of the Upper East region.

The chiefs, opinion leaders and people of the seven communities which are in the Kasena-Nankana East and West districts, have publicly announced the end of the spirit child phenomenon.

Myjoyonline.com published a report on April 1, 2011, on the chilling practice of cultural murder; the killing of babies who are born with deformities, or whose birth coincide with a tragic incident in the family, such as the loss of a parent.

In that report titled "SHOCKING!… Ritual baby killing
in Northern Ghana", Joy News Seth Kwame Boateng visited the “Sirigu” orphanage to uncover the chilling practice of cultural murder; the killing of babies who are deformed at birth.

The Seven communities, known to be practicing the killing of alleged spirit children, held a grand durbar on Saturday, to announce an end to the age old barbaric practice.

The declaration followed 12 years of intensive education against the practice, by Afrikids Ghana, a Child Rights Non-governmental Organisation.

Meanwhile, the 30 elders (concoction men), who brew poisonous liquid from local roots and herbs and force-feeds the alleged spirit children until they die, have been presented with four goats, a bicycle each, food items and have been registered under the National Health Insurance.

They are now to be called “Life Promoters” and have been tasked to promote the life of hitherto spirit children.

As part of the package, the former concoction men will be taken on a trip to schools in the communities to interact with pupils on specific issues affecting them.

I read this article with a lot of disdain. Indeed what is it that Tsatsu has said in court which makes him being disgraced every day? The NPP has been creating the impression that it is the NDC that has been going on a propaganda spree; but hold it. Why will Tsikata be the issue now. He is only a lawyer of the NDC and he is onlyu expected to cross examine Dr. Bawumia. Why these insults at him? Just like the NPP has been doing against Dr. Afari Djan. The NPP simply goes at the persons of individuals that they do not agree with. For any decent minded Ghanaian, this article will be dismissed with all the contempt it deserves. Ghanaians deserve better than this gutter articles and propaganda

I must confess that I haven't been following the unfolding circus in the Supreme Court. Forgot to get some pop corn and candy floss, as I advised all who wanted to watch to do, and therefore decided to stay at home.:-) I am therefore taken by surprise, and is aghast by the barrage of vitriolic outpourings from NPP quarters, on Tsatsu in particular this time.

Tsatsu is revered for his academic brilliance, as a law student in Ghana and in Oxford and then law lecturer, not as a court room, practising lawyer, which he is not. No one can take that from him, as the records are there for all to see. It has been noted that the most brilliant political scientist doesn't necessarily make the best politician, so I don't expect Tsatsu to be a brilliant court room lawyer to boot!

Now, I wrote this on the trend posted by Ahoofe and I think it fits here too.

The painting of Tsatsu as a criminal and accusing him of misappropriation is simply malicious libel, based on the dishonesty of his detractors. He certainly did not commit any crime nor stole any state money for his personal gain. It is simply mischievous libel or slander to claim so.

All that he did was acted as a quid pro quo surety for a loan for another firm, a cocoa growing venture Valley Farms, in which GNPC has interests, in order to generate financing to support its activities; besides getting some loans too. In this, the cowardly and conniving Board Members claimed that he didn't get their approval,something he disapproved of. And that's what they claimed made his action a "criminal action", a CEO's decision to guarantee a loan for another company his own company has interest in! Hmm! Why are not all those bankers in the West not in jail for unleashing the credit crunch on us, for all those murky financial, Ponzi-like scheme instruments they unloaded on us???

Unfortunately, GNPC wasn't much funded, forcing Tsatsu to resort to all kinds of short term activities not related to the core objectives of GNPC in order to raise funds to pursue the core objectives of GNPC. That was what earned him the accolade the "Wizard of Finance or Figures" or something like that, whatever; can't remember exactly. The firm defaulted and GNPC paid up and acquired more interest in the cocoa farm, said to be a viable venture by even an affiliate of the World Bank Tsatsu received advice from, but which also refused to testify on behalf of Tsatsu, pleading indemnity in Ghana! So in effect, GNPC did not incur any financial loss, since its shares in the farm could have been sold and the money realised. However, the Kufour regime, out to do in the NDC gurus and thus destroy the NDC, decided to bring a malicious charge of causing financial loss to the state against Tsatsu, for guaranteeing a loan which was not even half a million $s and without making any efforts to recover the amount from Valley Farms!

Considering the tens of millions of $s which have been lost under the NPP, due to sheer negligence (Tarzan's losses, e.g.), abrogation of legally binding contracts giving rise to all kinds of judgements debts, dodgy and good, etc., Kufour and his Ministers should be considered monstrous criminals, in whose shadow Tsatsu paled into insignificance.

It is interesting that they couldn't charge Tsatsu for the failed derivative deal running into several millions because Sam Jonah lost 20 times that amount under his own bad derivative deals which eventually forced the sale of the Ashanti Gold Fields to the S. Africans! Only few Ghanaians knew about how Sam Jonah caused a loss of over $200m to Ghana through his own hedging activities!

Ahoofe is just a jerk and I don't normally waste time reading him. This writer is not any better. In fact, I haven't even been wasting time following the unfolding circus in the Supreme Court. This rejoinder is therefore an exception.

Let the malicious fools here continue maligning and abusing Tsatsu but it is all hollow noise. He didn't steal any money from state coffers nor engaged in corrupt deals to enrich himself as those who support his detractors openly did!

It is no secret that they hate Tsikata because he is an Ewe and worked with Rawlings. Even Agyekum Kufour hated him for these same reasons.

There is no hiding the facts that the guy is brilliant and some of these NPP lawyers were his students as well.

So the question remains as to why this hatred emanating from the NPP camp? Simple, at every twist and turn Tsikata has proven to be the guy they have to genuinely beat. They have to resort to unorthodox ways of doing things to cage him. Kufour adopted that means and used Henrietta Abban for that purpose. She said Tsatsu case was an albatross around her neck.

Philip Addison is playing that same card before the justices too, give a dog a bad name and hang him. Instead of dealing with issues he attacks Tsatsu Tsikata in a personal way. By so doing he thinks he will turn the judges against the man they love to hate.

Tsatsu academic prowess are worth reading about. It is said that as a child, he was promoted to join his senior brother, Fui Tsikata, in the same class.

At the age of 9, he was admitted to Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast.

At 16 years, he was admitted to Legon.

By age 18, he had graduated from Legon with 1st class in Law.

He won a scholarship from Legon to go and further his education at Oxford University.

Again, the guy so many NPP people love to hate graduated with another 1st class degree in Law from Oxford University.

He return to Ghana and was employed as a lecturer the University of Legon. Some of his students are Freddy Blay of NPP, Gloria Akuffo of NPP, and many more.

You may not like the guy. You may hate him because he is an Ewe. You may hate him because he was Rawling's legal brain. You may hate him because he made things difficult for your NPP than you had expected. But please do not deny the facts that he is one of the brilliant and intriguing law personality in the land.

How many of you can say you have a more palatable story to tell about your academic achievements than his? We all travel in divergent directions but we cannot deny that some are born brilliant and are do at the things they do. Give what belongs to Caesar to Caesar.

What are Ebenezer Hagan's records in his academic pursuits? He should match his against the man he is so hating on and let readers judge if he has any sterling marks to trumpet about.

The fact that Oxford came out to categorically deny that Nana Addo was dismissed didn't stop NDC goons from spreading their falsehood around.

In this case, people are merely calling the NDC's bluff over claims that Tsatsu was going to make mincemeat of NPP lawyers and you can't seem to stand it. Yet, you enjoyed it when someone father, a man that has contributed in no small measure to this country's development, was crucified over and over again by the NDC propagandists. He declined to accept the amnesty granted by Prez. Kuffuor and yet did not stay in prison to continue with the matter! Ebenezer Hagan it is clear that you are totally blind to the issue you wrote about.
Let us believe what you wrote that Tsatsu Tsikata is a thief, but if a thief so love his country by setting up a crude oil exploration company and other sectors related to it, including optic fiber communication and a mobile telephone company, whiles those who say that they are patriotic stole the work of the thief's company to enrich themselves, we mean the EO Group, which even does not want to keep its stolen money in Ghana.
Then Tsatsu Tsikata or the EO Group and their friends in the Bar who protected and are protecting foreign interest as against that of Ghana for financial gain, then who is a thief when it comes to the property of the people of Ghana and her crude oil resources.
It is on record that when a person owns a bank and use a property as a surety, which is attached an assigned when that person fails to pay the loan and the interest. Fortunately international conventions on human rights stated that a person who is accused of a crime has the right to be heard and be represented by a council. It is therefore unfortunate when the petitioners are now calling the council of the defendant a criminal when his perceived criminality is not the issue before the court. It is most unfortunate that it is the same lawyers of the petitioners who defended a person who intentionally accused a student of sleeping with the father, alleged armed robbery and mass sexual orgy.
In the face of the facts above, who then is not fit to represent people in court.

I am sure we the Northerners are the ones Mother Ghana can rely on. Now look at the performances of: Dr Barwumiah and Mr Martin Amidu- a genuine person who will not fit into NDC. His crime is that he is not as corrupt as a typical NDC. TRUE, it is now time to allow the Moslems and Northerners to save Ghana. Of course we can't forget the christians too: Reverend Otabil and Reverend Professor Martey. All these nobles find NDC and their ruling leaders and policies very distastefull, and not helping Ghana
