Mr. Ziem rightly referred to the type of your line of thinking as "stone age reasoning". The era of "Nichodamous" "audience" with the "Big Man" has long passed. In this age of reason, issues of public interest are discussed publicly just as Mr. Ziem seeks to do. He has stirred the honest-nest and let the University and the public discuss the penitent issues. Mr. Ziem may not get all the issues right but it is in the very interest of the University Authority to dispel these erroneous pubic perceptions. Name-calling and imputing ill-motives to his concerns will not do the VC, the Administration and the image of the University any good.

Fo Kwaku, the writer is a journalist and it is not his remiss to do what you are suggesting. However, he could interview the VC and other concerned persons to cross-check some claims in order write his articles on the UDS. Did he do that? Was he granted audience? That's the qs we shld be asking.
This contribution in no way supports his position, as I am not acquainted with the issues raised in order to make an informed comment on them.

Sometime in 1985 the Dagombas in Tamale were up in arms against the PNDC government because nearly every head of department in the Northern Region was of other tribes other than Dagombas. Alhaji Huudu Yahaya was the Regional Secretary. A bunch of Dagombas marched to the Residency protesting against what they perceived as "discrimination" against Dagombas. Regional Regional Director of Eduction-Dagaaba, Regional Pharmacists-Gonja, Regional Manager GWCL-Frafra etc. Hon. Alhaji Yahaya listened patiently to their complaints and asked them to go out in the region and look for qualified Dagombas to replace the non-Dagombas. The jubilant protestors immediately marched back to town and caught hold of one of their tribe's men who as a Standard Seven Holder operating a "Drugs' Store" and presented him to the Regional Secretary as to replace the Regional Pharmacist. Mind you dear reader, Hon. Alhaji Yahaja is a "pure-blooded Dagomba". He asked his kinsmen and women to relax so that the necessary formalities would be put on paper. While they were celebrating their "first coup d'tat" Hon. Yahaya sent for the military who unleashed mayhem on the stupid jubilants.
This issue of Dagombalization of Northern Ghana is not a recent phenomenon. What Dagombas have forgotten or refuse to admit is that when the bell for formal education first rang in Dagombaland, they refused to respond but rather trooped to Masarada to learn Quaranic verses in Arabic. Other tribes in northern Ghana as far as Hamile and Paga responded to the call and came to Dagombaland for formal education. Is it any wonder therefore that today the so-called "inferior tribes" are the masters of the Alpha-Dagombas?

I scarcely comes along articles 0f high quality , intelligences ,candid and above all objective as this.If you go to most district administration all over the Akan areas in Ghana, you will definitely come across a person of northern Descent being the District Coordinating Director of some sort or the the other. Lets go to the Northern part of Ghana and see if the opposite is the case. Can someone tell me the Akans dont go to school as our brothers and sisters from the north? Is there any place named Kumasi, Sunyani , or Ashantiline, Brongline or Akyem or Fante Newtown in any of the three Regions in the north? But come to the Akan areas , you have Sukura ,Dagombaline, Mamprusiline, at least in places like Kumasi and Techiman. Are our Northern brothers and sisters telling us we akans are short of names to name our areas or we are simply Stupid? Is time the rest of the country to end their xenophobic attitudes to wards akans and learn how we peacefully COEXIST WITH THE REST OF THE TRIBES IN GHANA. GOD BLESS GHANA AND WISE PEOPLE LIKE JOE WHO WROTE THIS WONDERFUL PIECE

It makes sense to employ citizens in their own regions. Local people are suppose to manage their areas in a true democracy country. I mean people who hail from the region.

The fact remains that Dagomba are the most non tribalist group on the face of earth. Over the year Dagomba have received and continue to receive various tribes with open arms particularly our brothers of Mole-Dagbon. Its against this background that Tamale has become a cosmopolitan area today. Dagomba can not discriminate because Dagbon is the heartbeat of the North and so everybody can easily see. Our brothers from the upper east and west have visited such tribalist cards on Dagombas but, I personally don't they should be paid back in their own coin admitting this story is true. I don't think tribalism is really that of a problem among Dagomba. Our real problem is within ourselves( Abudu and Andani) and not to other tribes. My prayer is that more opportunities will be created up north for people so that we don't over the few that exist now. Dagbon has three major tribes Dagombas, Konkonbas and Chakusis. As for Mole - Dagbon, Frafra, Kusasi. Wala, Dagaaba. Mamprusi, Nanumba,Grunees, Bimobas and others are all a part. Dagbon is for all. Dagbon should one day offer opportunities for all those who come to drink from its springs. I am by this apologising to any person who suffered from the actions and inactions of any dagomban to forgive and forget. DAGBON WILL MAKE UP TO YOU.
Geez,i always thank God i was born from the chosen and blessed people of Ashanti.
